Ha well, we have a herd of highly trained squirrels busily modding everything that's missing from Starbound, into the game. So wait a few days/weeks and inevitably a Borderlands mod will pop up.
WOOOOO! Its too bad there isn't a mod advanced MOD api that lets you join servers and show off with content you have that the server doesn't. Like you alone would be dressed with Borderlands apparel, weaponry, pets, mounts and machine, etc And only can craft or find them. Even tech. While the server can't since it has the data for the mod temporarily downloaded for others to see this player.
Ya the modding implementation and sharing of mods is a ltitle clunky at the moment. I'm unaware if this is something that can be overcome with super coding skills, or whether it's a hard limitation of working with lua. If it can be made though I'm fairly certain someone will. Bartwe is a great coder, and there is tons of beta testers contributing stuff. Way more than I expected actually.
Its possible. course every server that intends to have "Out of downloaded content" to be loaded to their servers temporary for players who do have mods the server doesn't, means they would just need this mod, and don't have to download a zillion others. Its a good way to add variety and not allow others to copy your work unless they have the mod too when joining. Why not get this idea out to some big time Coding developer? Its likely possible. The only problems I am aware of this now is players joining with questionable content, slightly longer loading time before entering the server since its getting a temporary download of what you have, and a bit of a hit on performance until the player is in. Otherwise, an IP ban and a speciailized GUI for Server administrators to monitor who is on their servers, as well as look into, observe and manage the tiles/temporary files being downloaded, and which ones to ban, and mods to prohibit while that player is on their servers.

Isn't it just one of the greatest feelings though when you chunk a buzz axe towards something at l33t tier accuracy? One of the most satisfactory "DINK" sounds you'll ever hear in life. Especially if its a critical.
