I think Pets, as a piece of sprite that hovers/walks behind you is completely boring.
If they have personalities, AI, run away from danger, pick up stuff and bring it to you playfully, jump around places, they could be good.

But they must ACHIEVE some sort of connection to the player for it to be good.

If its just a WoW pet that moves as you move, i find it quite simplistic and frankly boring.

I voted nay, if purely cosmetic. I would rather have a new race, or some other collecting feature.

It's not that kind of game.

I suggested minigames like CTF or hold the ball

I don't dislike the idea of starter pets but since there are already tameable creatures it seems pretty pointless.

It's a sandbox, it can be any kind of game you want it to be. The fact people did things like that in Terraria with no existing features to support it is proof enough. And yes, I do know Starbound isn't Terraria, but it's the closest comparison.

Nobody is acting entitled. Mollygos asked for our input. We're giving it.

Don't be, we have a very special connection. You could even say he's my best friend. His name is Wilson.

If I had to choose I'd say no.

I'm not interested in a vanity pet that "might" give me a utility or buff option... besides that's what the floodlights are for on my mech lol.

But in all seriousness, I think that the pets would only be worth 3 grand. It's not something I would consider a expansive stretch goal.

Show me what you can do for me in technology, or vehicles. Otherwise my vote is for the Monophytes.

pre-built pvp arenas are planned for post release
PVP will be in the game at Beta release in normal sandbox mode, and there will most likely be pre-generated Arena Asteroids for organized game modes which will automatically keep score for you, however the arenas and special pvp game modes themselves will be post release. edit - source http://community.playstarbound.com/...nced-game-information-updated-april-15th.450/

boss rush mode sounds interesting but i have to wonder how many bosses will be in a universe this size.

    In my humble opinion.

    Pets pros:
    - You can collect them
    - Some pets will be hard to get and they will be valuable
    - They're cute

    Pets cons:
    - Developers need to draw sprites, to think of AI, to add pets to world generation.
    - They will create mess at the screen during the battle.
    - If they will give bonuses, balance will break. Everyone will carry pet, because no one want to be worse than the other. (33% of the players, who are against pets, will not be happy)
    - Pets may not always fit into the atmosphere of the game. (Cat in a vacuum? Sneaking player and running after him happy dog? Thousand monsters tearing player in parts and joyful parrot flies nearby?)

Personally, I do not mind non-combat pets, if they relate to the "furniture", which can be left on the base. They will create the atmosphere and make the world more alive. However, in combat or travel through uncharted lands they are unnecessary.

Instead of pets I would like to see another equipment slot for belt. So we can put here personal shield / stealth field generator / other useful items with a consumablecharge. This would add depth to the game and made the characters even more unique. It can be said that technological slots will be designed for this, but they probably will not be adding another bar to the user interface. These items will have it.

P.S. I am a cautious attitude to combat pets. Developers need to think carefully about the balance of the player without the pet has not been worse than a player with a pet. Maybe get players with the pets to give a part of technological slots for ability to be with pet?

Going through this thread, you can see many good ideas and civil deliberation on this subject. Even ideas in place of a pet system. I hope to see dev responses to all this soon.

It sounds really awesome :) . Do the pets grow as you play? Do they change or do they stay the same way they were?
