Yea it would be rather confusing. Like a passive pet system and a fighting one? Doesn't really make sense. Do we have any details on how monster combining will work? It's one of the things Im most excited for

Why not to allow tamed pet being changed genetically to allow them look like cute dogs? Much like vanity items that you use to cover your armor in Terraria.

They are quoting what the original poster of that said. Look, it even says "lduffy said" at the top, which is kinda giving credit

Personally I think that's an amazing idea and much better than vanity pets. Should've thought more about it before saying yay in the poll

  4. I keep insisting in INFORM people that there is this system CONFIRMED. This is a new system for Vanity Pets when they could expand the one they confirmed already, people don't know this Before voting. --' :barefeet:

Actually just me and the same guy posting it twice without quoting but it's alright.
It's cool that my idea gets supported by being bumped.

Slap you? I'm gonna KILL you! MUAHAHAHAH! No, just kidding... I agree with what yu said. How about make the starter pets a 850k strech goal make the million strech goal *drum rolls* A BETA!?

It's been said above but adding to the current pet taming system would be more interesting to me.

Breeding, Fusing, Upgrading... some of this may exist already but certainly there's room for more additional content/systems.

Knew about it and voted yes anyway. If they've already got a thread like this up, it's most likely going to be the third stretch goal.

it doesn't exist, atleast that I know. it was suggested here other than pets.

  10. Yes since you ALREADY can Capture and Tame monsters, there is no sense in put another system only for vanity pets, they should expand the one they have already ;)

I would REALLY LOVE to see a pets system for beta, even if they are non-combat.
as long as they are better at staying with you than terraria's crappy bunny.

As I'm sure it's been said before, if this starter pet could be essentially a walking backpack that would be pretty acceptable.

I like the idea, personally. The main "Bonus" was a new playable race, and they still surprised us with the fossil system. However, I do think that there needs to be more to it than a small creature that just follows you around. There should be tamable non-combat pets as well (small birds, small quadrupeds, etc), and you should be able to do various things with them. I like the idea of needing to take some sort of care of your active pet, and needing to decide whether to bring it with you or not. Better yet, give them certain bonuses. If you have a bird, you're able to pan your screen further because they can fly up for a better view. Dogs can help find fossils, cats will stare indifferently at you until they need something, etc.

I think something needs to be said about the monster-breeding thing. While I think it's an interesting concept and everything, the ideas that people are throwing around really seem like something a whole game should be built around, not some secondary feature on a sandbox game that's already got it's core mechanics mapped out. If they plug in breeding functions, or a pet system, it should secondary or even tertiary in nature, which means it won't be insanely complex and intricate.

I mean think about it. It would be like adding a minigame that's trying to be as advanced as the rest of the game.

Well obviously it doesn't exist yet, I thought monster breeding was already approved somewhere

  17. This makes so little sense. We will be able to Capture and Tame Monsters, but if we want a Pet, we need to user another system for that. It's some really useless content when they have the possibility to expand the one they already have for something more awesome.

Now the devs know that many people do want some sort of addition to the pet system, they've been given several ideas to do so. I agree that expanding on the current pet system is probably the best option, and NOT make it a separate stretch goal.

Maybe the next goal could be space combat instead, thát would blow people's socks off I'd wager! It's not like they don't have enough money to make it work :p

To be honest. I don't really care if the stretch goal exists at all, but since it does I say yay go ahead and add the pets.
Yes, I know monster capturing and taming is already a confirmed system for Starbound. It's also a system I probably wouldn't use much anyway and a "normal" non random gen pet following me would be pretty cool.

You are assuming that this isn't going to be an expansion on the other system. I don't think it would be too hard to say "You can start with this pet that does not attack and doesn't get attacked" which could be merely flags in the pet system code that say non-combat.
