I'm liking it. I can only imagine how hard it is to come up with doable stuff in such a short time. Perhaps you can do a whole series of such smaller additions, that way there won't be much anger and disappointment when we inevitably don't reach a stretch goal. Putting in the big stuff first was a wise move imho.

I thought they were already going to include the capturing of mobs.

After some thought, I voted Nay. I don't hate the idea, hard to ever complain about extra content really. But it seems to be such a shallow system I have no interest in having a pet cluttering up my screen and seen the same pets over and over again, since the roster seems to be a bit small and instantly available if you're the right race. If you want to add more aesthetic vanity options to the game I'd prefer extra hats/armor/weapons.

It seems like pets were already in the original game plan. So, whether they are added as a stretch goal, or some other way, I guess they will eventually appear in the game. Adding a pets feature, seems like it would not impact development as much as some other unplanned feature.

I am surprised at the amount of nays.

You know what would really boost numbers?

    A trailer.

I gotta tell ya, trying to find solid information about this game is akin to sifting through sands in search of gold. At least for the Average Joe.
Why be an internet detective when you can just watch a video to find the answers?

I hear they're already working on one but they should try and get that out on the double. This game needs some promotional material besides screenshots, wallpapers, and tech demos.

how would you prove it? not like you get a one millionth dollar message you can show people or anything...I can take a screenshot right now when it hits goal and pretend I did it...doesn't mean I did it.

    just made no sense.

I dunno. With taming, I think I'd never use a pet. I'd rather have a badass wolf that I get attached to after it saves my life a bunch of times than an inert bunny.

How about expanding the taming system with breeding, armor for your tamed creatures, etc instead of semi-redundance?

Yep! Played that good game, and Front Mission too I think it was called. :)

I just think it'd be fun to have personalized mechs similar to MMX, I dunno. :( Different mechs for different reasons - small ones and big ones, I could see them as being a unique addition. Pimp My Mech, etc ;)

I'd definitely take a group of my mechs and call them Chex-Mechs though.. :D

I think having a companion pet not involved in combat is okay with me. They could have a purpose though like, Torchlight 2 where pets can go sell and buy stuff in town. In the case of Starbound, perhaps it can fetch an item you have stored or something to that effect (just an idea nothing concrete).

Molly and other staff peoples, let us squee together a little bit. Squeeeee. Just a little one.

I mean, seriously pets. And strange, exotic pets at that. (I have a soft side for the weird and slimy things, in an entirely platonic way of course)

I know people are going off about this being a poor idea because these things aren't 'tangible', but you know what? To some of us, these things are awesome and contribute to the feel of the game. I don't need everything to be about combat. Or breeding. Or intensive systems that will require excel spreadsheets and coding time. That can happen later, or be modded. I don't mind.

Have you ever played Guild Wars 2 and taken a look at some of the rewards for laurels? THE best thing you can purchase with them is Chauncy VonSnuffles. The Best. And it does nothing, other than look like a cat with monocle and top hat that follows you around. From what I understand there'd be a slightly more robust system here, allowing pets to chill in given locations (or aboard the ship) and maybe ambiently play. That is fantastic. I want that goal.

So do that thing. And you know that the feels you get when you have a tiny pet that helps keep your morale up and adds a little spark to the games you play? Some of us also know about those feels.

Also, as another thought, what about different space ships? I don't know to what extent you folks have worked on the designing aspects of the ships themselves (Unlike other posters, I'm not lookin' for a block-by-block system here), but maybe having a little variety would be good too?

I do not see pets in a "space" environment. Not at all. I don't like the idea of pets for a Stretch Goal. Please don't do it.
