Strange engine lag

I've said this in previous threads but I wanted to make a thread about it to see if I'm not the only one. Ever since Enraged came out my game has had "lag spikes", like you would have in an online game, where everything stops, then has to catch up. This happens all the time but it's not a constant thing, like, I could see one every 45 seconds or so. It's very jarring and quite annoying to play through. Is anyone else having this issue?

Yes, I have that, too. It takes long to load the new screen every few seconds. I didn't have that before EK.
Good to know I am not the only one with that problem.

Well for me it's not the screens taking forever, those load for me fine. It's monsters stopping in mid air, and my mining ores "stopping" then harvesting all together at once, like the engine is catching up. It's really jarring and annoying.

This and the world taking seconds to load once I move to either side.

I have the same issue, I have posted a thread to In Game & Billing and post on the Bugs thread but had very little response. It happens to me when placing a torch or occasionally when shooting a mob, the mob will pause (even if in mid air) and then suddenly be on top of me. I also get it where I shoot a mob with an arrow, the mob carries on moving and then realizes its dead. I haven't played SB since because combat is unusable.

The thing is it's constant, like I've said ad nauseam, it's as if I were connected to a game server, and my connection just lags occasionally and everything just "stops" midair, with only my character being manipulable, before it catches up and resumes. It's really quite irritating. So far I've been able to play around it and at times don't notice it but it's really hurting the game for me. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not a douchebag, I know this is beta. Just wondering how they broke the engine in such a way for this to happen and whether they plan on fixing it soon.

It seems to be happening to me as well, especially the lag in picking up blocks and having chunks of the world I'm on taking too long to load so I get big gaps in the landscape until it fills them in. The irony is I get less lag playing on a server than I do in SP it seems! Ahhh, beta.

I DO hope they find it and fix it soon... it's "immersion breaking" for me.

I had this same issue in furious koala but even though I still get it in enraged koala, it's not as severe as it was before. I've heard it has something to do with how the game, in multiplayer, allows the server to pick up some of the slack, so when playing single player your rig is forced to do all the work on its own thus causing some engine lag.

I'm in Single Player, is the issue.

Yup, me too. It's a little different, though, I get choppy gameplay all through the game, FPS seems constantly low. In addition, sometimes stuff takes a while.

It's not really a framerate issue (other than the game's usual bad framerate :p) It's the engine outright lagging behaviors.

*bump* this strange engine lag needs to be addressed.

I'm getting the same lag spikes and brief freezing during any busy moment in game. Combat, falling water and sand and the tech labs all seem a lot worse since the Enraged Koala patch.

That's what sucks about it. It's some bizarre lag thing with the engine. I don't know if it's affected by my video card driver or if it's universal for players.

After hotfix 5 it still exists. Sometimes takes between five and ten seconds before the world generates, crates open or monsters "awaken" from their stasis. This makes it really hard to play.
With Furious K. I did never experience this.

It's been a thing for a while but it's gotten exponentially worse for me since the most recent version, none of the hotfixes had an effect on it (though as best I can tell from the meager notes, they weren't meant to). Some have actually made it worse. It's really bad in areas with a lot of objects like my ship, plus random severe freeze-ups when I swing at a moving enemy or something like that.

I've only gotten into the beta since Enraged Koala but I also notice a lot of lag issues in both single and multiplayer. The more items/characters in the general area of my character, the worse the lag gets. Out in an open space with few enemies or items the game runs smoothly. Once I build a home with lots of torches and chests and other items it starts to bog down. Or if I hit a spot with 5+ enemies the game gets really choppy. I was pretty surprised by this since the game isn't really graphically intensive. My PC runs all my other games just fine like GW2, Diablo 3, etc... so I found it strange that this game would bog things down so much just from a handful of enemies or too many interactive objects. In MP my friends and I built a base and that area became pretty much unplayable for me with all the lag causing me to have difficulty opening a chest or a door.

Yeah I have had this for a long while now. I figured it was an engine optimisation issue. My computer is a few months old and whilst it could use a graphics card upgrade, it can run Total War - Rome II just fine which is much more graphically intensive than starbound. Same with WOW, Hitman and SIms3 all run fine. Starbound lags.. get huge missing squares of scenery and my char will hang in the air until it loads.
Pixels and blocks follow me across the screen incredibly slowly, forcing me to stop to wait for them to catch up. Monsters lag taking any challenge out of the game as they are so slow and clunky.
Heres hoping it gets sorted soon enough
