I find the current story... cringy and lacking, I miss the old lore and story-line. I was thinking if there was any bored modder out there, why not try "fixing" the story and adding more personalized ones. I've seen sananab's racial intros and was tempted to post this. I would really like to enjoy a story with this game but the "Everybody's a hero" story is just... Unfulfilling and empty, there could be so much more. In the main-time if you know of any modded races with their own personal story like the Avikan mod, I'd really appreciate it if you let me know.
Honestly speaking I think it was just more of a limitation of technology. You need to create a technological base then add a story ontop of it. Writing the story, setting up the maps, linking it all together would have delayed release probably by 2+ years if you want a decent job done. But I do agree with you, the story does feel unfulfilling. At the same time starbound for me is not about story, it is about modding and allowing you to make the changes you want to make. Which it does a great job at.
