Stopping players from walling monsters in

I just think that materials in the game need hp, and enemies should be able to break blocks, and the materials properties will just vary depending on what it's made out of.

Maybe because dominant strategy theory is complete bunk. Just because somebody CAN do something one way doesn't mean they will. Humanity isn't exactly a shining example of always doing things the easiest way. But if they want to who are you or anyone else for that matter to say it's wrong for them to do so? And again your "reasons" are, as anything else here, an opinion. Not a fact.

Easy solution: Make these things options when creating a character. Choose if you can attack through walls, choose if enemies can break blocks and what kind of blocks can be broken and such. And then there can also be server options that override certain character options, if that makes sense. The more options there are the better.

No one is "FORCING" you to cheese behind dirt <_< breakable blocks is a horrible idea, in my opinion ; attacks shouldn't pass thru blocks.

Even though options are nice, slashing through walls makes a huge difference, a little bit too huge to remain in the game as an option since it would have to be balanced around it to be viable... It rather seems like a bug to me than anything else.

It also makes so many dungeons so insanely easy... Prison is by far the strongest example, I can kill 75% of the NPCs there by hitting through walls with a bit of mining, kinda pointless if it is supposed to be a challenge.

I don't think anything needs to be done besides fixing the attack-through for melee. Maybe the placement speeds are a little fast but unless you choose to do it yourself, others doing it aren't affecting your personal enjoyment any, so what does it matter? (At least it shouldn't be.)

I dunno, with my toilet paper armour I feel like it's the only way to not be gibbed if I want an upgrade. I mean if I want items above my level I need to fight enemy above my level.

Sums it up. The hitting through blocks is a necessary evil right now. However it won't be soon, so removing it *then* makes sense. All those people who feel they need it or it helps should remember that other changes are happening and you need to think in the context of those changes not the game as it is now.

For me, boss and mid-boss must have the power to break blocks. Maybe some monster random generated too (will help to choose a planet, want to see space giant who eat block. :D).
    Disable hitting through walls.

Type of block lure monster or pnj (block made of rare materials lure pirate who want's them, flesh block lure monster who want to eat ... :D)

And like this, walling monster in became ineffective :D

I'd suggest enemies be able to easily destroy newly created blocks, as suggested, as well as be able to damage existing blocks to elimate obstacles between themselves and the player. As long as our melee can pass through walls, they need to be able to do the same to us, as well.

Boss monsters need to have block breaking attacks. No question about it.

Seeing the giant bone dragon fail to dent dirt blocks made me cringe in agony of how easily I could kill it(Had a low level assault rifle, blasted it nonstop for 10 minutes for 1 damage each with my mouse taped down thanks to dirt blocks keeping his attacks from hitting me AND keeping him still).

Every attack doesn't have to instantly break a block, but it should 'mine' the block SIGNIFICANTLY more than they currently do. For bosses only, not for regular enemies, mini bosses, or the like.

Seriously, I was in disbelief when the flying bone thing's flamethrower couldn't dent a single layer of dirt, even with how fast and how many are thrown during the attack. And I took advantage of it.

Attacking through walls should also be stopped, but that can wait for later honestly. Bosses being able to break blocks should take way more priority.

(And obviously, stronger materials will take longer for a boss to break(just like pickaxes take longer on harder materials), so it would encourage building your structures out of stronger materials than just dirt or wood all the time.)

Side note: If blocks on the floor didn't disappear so fast, it would be less of an issue for those building with rarer materials.

I am going to repeat myself because people keep landing on one side or the other, and I think that in the haste to pick a side for this argument, you forget that you can have a middle ground which is best for everyone.

You want enemies to be able to break blocks, for sure, and I think the stronger the block the harder it should be.

To expand on this as well, some projectile monsters could be able to shoot through walls.
    Some monsters could teleport.
Some monsters could apply a new debuff called "Build Paralysis" where you can't build for X amount of seconds.
Some monsters could "eat" blocks place in front of him and the player (by the player of course) and become bigger/stronger from doing it.

    Etc. Etc.

There are a lot of ways around this, and most include keeping the system in place and just giving a lot of alternating options to choose from, which would also fit in with the random monster design as it is. You don't want to limit using building in combat, but you want to keep the player on their toes with more diverse attacks besides "jump and lunge."

That being said, removing the ability to activate/interact/attack through blocks has the upside of giving walls a real value instead of some arbitrary space that simply needs handled.

And for the argument that players will "do what they want" - you are 100% correct. More-so considering that the game itself is being designed to be easily modifiable for customized servers and experiences. So while it's understood that the game should offer logical mechanics, you can expect to see an insane amount of crazy coming in the next year.

They shouldn't prevent walling, they just need to add in a few common sense mechanics, and give monsters some better techniques.

Stop most/all weapons from being able to damage through blocks.
Make enemies try to flee if they can't damage their attacker.
Make some enemies able to escape through small amounts of low strength material(dirt, sand, maybe cobblestone, etc) by breaking it.
Make some enemies able to counterattack through blocks.
Make bosses able to pass through blocks. (Probably with some variability, maybe some bosses slow down immensely but can still move, a few rare bosses break blocks, some that get stuck but can counterattack somehow, some that could teleport, etc)

Those are just some things I can immediately think of, and it could add much more monster variability.
There isn't even much point in blocking enemies in(aside from bosses obviously) since all they drop is a few measly pixels and meat that is quickly outstripped by finding a planet full of vegetable plants.

Nooooo, this is not a MMORPG, this is a building, action, adventure game. The only thing the designers are responsible for is making the game. It is up to the individual to decide to play, so stop being a gamplay gestapo and let others play how they want if you don't like that play style don't use it or don't play with others that do. Or do you have so little self control that you jump on the first thing you see and do it.

I'm astonished by the amount of people that would like a broken game just because it will be easier.

    Seriously. GTFO.

So you like walling in aliens and killing them with no threat?
And players should be able to play the game with no enemy being a threat? ever?

    lol
