I have gotten familiar with the experience of starving to death on a well-stocked ship because I went idle. I'd like to be able to keep the game open and idle without having to burn food (to keep up on server chat, for example). Would it be possible to have hunger progression stop after a minute or so of ship idleness? I don't think that could be exploited.
well it could be to stop farms on ships from growing to feed your idle character. say your low on food plant some seeds on your ship (a few blocks of dirt+hoe+seeds) then go idle you wont starve to death, and you simply stop being idle as soon as the food is done replant, go idle again....
Hardly an excuse, farms are a terrible way to get food since in about 5 minutes I can get 30 raw meat, and that will last me a good few RL hours if I cook it.
true. but some foods give buffs as well Burgers heal Hot bones give move speed and healing Burning eyeballs do what hot bones do but for longer...
I think you fail to see how stupid your post is... This thread is about hunger not killing you while you're AFK.... It's NOT about making the game easier, it IS about convenience.
I read that your hunger is paused while sleeping in a bed, but never tested to see if that was accurate. Was suggested that you use a bed if you intend to afk. Nifty that the smelters/refiniries keep producing when you're not actively watching the window.
If there is a way.. Maybe a cryochamber is in order. To pause hunger while you are supposedly afk where it cannot be taken advantage of, this is a great idea. However, simply being on a ship should not freeze hunger. .
Right now it might not be able to be abused, but do realize you CAN set up a base of operations on a ship. And I have a feeling they plan to expand on the ships. (It has been suggested so much) I tend to think ahead while most people, don't seem to. Not that you don't, just some people don't.
It's hard to look forward in game development though. There are many possibilities for AFK invincibility to be abused, but only a few if any will be in the game and we have no idea how to combat them since we don't know which they are. Currently not losing hunger while AFK is a good idea with not many drawbacks, and it can always be reviewed and changed when the need arises.
Or maybe, if you are on your ship, and AFK since few minute, your character is able to automaticaly eat some food equipped in your hand (or in the shortcut bar).
Thats the thing Temporary fixes are not always the best way to go, as a programmer I have made many little games / not so little games and when i do temporary fixes it is sometimes very hard to go back and get rid of them.
Also a good idea. Fair enough, although I don't make games modding has it's fair share of these problems too.
Yeah, I'm not proposing that hunger should be entirely frozen when on a ship. Like a previous poster said, you can set up a whole lot of crafting tables and the like, so it's possible that a lot of actual playtime could be spent on the ship, and my proposal is not that you should have a way to dodge hunger while playing. But how about this? Hunger is frozen if you are sitting down (no matter where this is happening). Furthermore, you cannot do anything while sitting down. This would give seats an actual (small) in-game function and encourage roleplay-feeling situations (if I'm waiting for a friend to show up at a place.. I'll sit down to wait!)
Maybe one approach would be to not freeze hunger at all on your ship, but to simply not allow you to die from it. If you choose to go afk, you'll come back to a starving dude who needs food before he goes down to the surface or he'll die in seconds.
