Still No Key Rebinding?

So what you're saying is you don't think it's within reason to expect a game that costs $15 and in a BETA stage (not pre-alpha, not even alpha... beta) to have rebindable keys... in 2014? This isn't about crying or civil rights lol. It's about the expectation of a game in a beta stage of development that's been funded millions of dollars and costs $15.

It would've had more impact if you said "costs $60". If you expect a cheap game to have keybindings as a default feature, you haven't been gaming for long enough.

I never specifically replied to you either, but if the shoes fits? Your opening post very much implied that you think this feature should have been implemented already, which gives the impression that you find the developers lazy and apathetic, for why else would they not have implemented a feature if the feature is, in your opinion, something that should have been something that they could have implemented by now? Perhaps this wasn't your intended message in which case I would advise you to revise your statement, because right now you kind of sound like you are complaining about something not being done in a timely fashion but don't necessarily have the insight into that something to know what a timely fashion for it should be.

I do because, again as I've said my other posts which you apparently haven't read, every game I've tested, whether in alpha or closed beta, has had key remapping, and those were free games. That was my point. The price of Starbound individually is irrelevant because it's made literally millions of dollars already (well over $15 million based on copies sold so far). Price of the game aside, even if it was free, I would still expect key remapping to be in this late in development. It's a pretty standard practice these days...

There may not be keybinding yet, but hey, at least there's a keyboard you can use as an instrument!

Free games with a marketplace? That's a different business model, which tries to profit from something other then sales.

If the price of Starbound is irrelevant, why even mention it?

Games need millions to even consider being made. You've no idea of the development costs involved in making games. Even though Starbound isn't a triple-A game, developers still want reasonable pay.

I've been gaming for 14 years now, and I've seen countless games with no option for binding keys. Yet this is one of the few cases I've ever seen, where the community is actually trying to cause a backlash about something so trivial. It's almost like the colorblind petitioning ArenaNet to add colorblind-mode to Guild Wars 2. Frankly speaking -- this is a problem for a minority and issues that affect everyone, not just the minority, should be looked into first. That includes performance issues, memory leaks and the lack of content. Player comfort is all good, except where it's only really useful for a minority that could very well learn to adapt to the standard, and clearly superior, control scheme. If I have, I don't see why you can't.

I expect a game to have key binding ...when its RELEASED. Its beta- the devs can do things in WHATEVER order they want as long as necessary features make it to release. What's so difficult to understand about that?

I could understand if there was no plan to add key rebinding- then the complaints would serve a purpose. It is a planned feature, so the constant whining is unnecessary. This isnt released. In fact, oi think CF bends a little to much for people who play this like it is a full release. They must feel guilty for advertising on steam like if its a finished game.

Seems to me, that the "Early Access Game" box takes up more space then the combined "buy" boxes. How is that advertising the game as a finished game?

Well, you could download a program for macroing keybinds. It works for me.

I'm pretty sure I didn't the term early access specifically implies missing features. Have you looked at the beta stages and how they'll work post? Missing features is like the first thing mentioned iirc.
Sorry if post makes no sense I have a one year old crawling all over me

Well, if you want to pick out one sentence and take it out of context....

I acknowledge that this is an unfinished game in beta. It still doesnt change the fact that its marketed and sold like a full release game. Its right on steams front page next to Assassins creed with barely any distinction between the two. There was even a sale for it already. My point in bringing that fact up was to explain the reason why they may be so concerned about "Final wipes" and communicating details of updates. They treat the patches almost as if it was a full release game. Real Betas change when they want and as frequently or infrequently as the Devs please. This is obviously not the case with SB- hence why i say they must feel a little guilty about treating their customers like "real" beta testers.

Apart from the large "Early Access Now Available" banner then.

It's marketed and sold as a full release game only if you're blind and stupid.

In which case I'm very impressed you managed to purchase it.

Oh, they've started handing out assignments and require us to file detailed bug reports now? No?

Then we're not being treated as "real" beta testers.

What? I'm saying they DONT treat the players like real beta testers, due to knowing that many people purchased this as if it was a full release. Reading comprehension please.

I find it funny that you feel the need to knee-jerk attack me when in fact im basically trying to defend CF view on omitting certain features. Again- reading comprehension is your friend. Definition of a blind white knight. I'm surprised YOU were even able to understand what "Early Access" mean. congratulations.

You're saying that it's marketed and sold as a full release.

    It's not.

And they don't treat players as real beta testers because we aren't real beta testers. We just get to play the game as it's being developed.

They took money and told me it was "extremely playable." As a left-handed gamer, the game is entirely unplayable until there's keybinding.

At this point, i think they are just trolling us and already implemented key bindings but it's invisible for normal users...

Just a suggestion, you should really get on board with WASD as it much easier in the long run and pretty much every PC game on the planet uses it. I've been playing video games for 30 years and I can remember when games didn't use WASD and I had to use the arrow keys which is what I suppose the left handers want to do now. My point is that it wasn't a big deal for me back then so I don't see why it's much more than an annoyance that can be easily overcome today. One of my best friends is left handed, but the mouse stays on the right hand side and he's perfectly fine with a WASD setup simply because he took the minute time to get used to it.

I would love to see key bindings for other reasons of course, I believe there was possibly a dev tweet that stated next patch might include it? Don't want to get anyone's hopes up.

Wanna know something craaazy? I use esdf for games with a mouse, and numpad for games that don't require a mouse. Both my hands are capable of movement. I'm amazing.
