Well I've been playing on Tier II (but still in the Alpha Sector) for a few days now. I've found a rather nice Forest planet to settle on, and call home. It's the same orbit as my first planet, actually. I've elected for the "Underground Bunker" style housing for now. But I have a pleasant mountainside to work with, so I've plenty of space. Zoom-x2 view of my full house... Complete with guest. I've even built a fish tank right in the center there. It is taking FOR-ever to fill the dumb thing though. That ugly diagonal thing in the upper-right is the only way I can figure out to get water into it. Is there some way to transfer liquids in-game? If not, there should be. lol That weird little room in the upper-left acts as a teleport-access location (there's another bottom-right). It's just a small room (7x8) with the back wall dug out; and some Steel Blocks, Fluorescent Lights, and Hi-Tech blocks for decoration. I designed it to look like the teleportation pads from various Sci-Fi series. I'd rather have actual teleporter-pads like the one's in the ship, but it was fun designing it too look good with the limited supplies I had found so far. I don't know if something similar is craft-able in later tiers, but I certainly haven't found any recipes on it yet. I'm actually searching through the wiki, AND the suggestions thread, to see if I can add an official suggestion, or whether it's already been done. Thanks for your time, have a wonderful day -Wolf
I've also gone bunker style! Kind of in reverse. I started early with the Packed Dirt so I figure it's too late to change it now. I'm colonizing my home star system though so I'll likely go with a stonier bunker later on. The two houses on top were built because it felt rather empty up there. I'm also on Tier 2! I tend to take games realllllly slowly and Starbound is no exception. I'm crafting whatever I can and exploring whatever I can before moving forward.
