Making a complex system gets almost impossible, due to all the wires going over each other. I mean, for simple things, sure, the logic system may be better, if only because its cheaper resource wise.

    But maybe that's just me.

  2. As far as wiring goes, I'd love to have a single box you place down, that opens up a wiring map, where you can place dozens of components and wire them together however you please. You'd just need to have it add numbered input circles for each input/output from the box.

Or just a "computer" that executes a Lua script which is called whenever any input is changed.

Iron + coal is much more of a better then others. Every game ever with crafting as a primary mechanic has the "iron + coal = steel" combo's.

Irrelevant now. Steel was removed a while ago. Check dates next time.

people seem to be ignoring a simple solution: the game is in the future, with actual aliens, who for the sake of it, could have all collectively called the 3 materials in question copper iron and steel, even if they are nothing alike what we know if it, and simply by how words change, everyone just calls them that now, even if to a human it'd make no sense. the names truly do not matter in the scheme of things.

Some people are seemingly incapable of suspending their disbelief for the sake of the game.

Luckily this argument went moot the second they removed alloys.

Just to add to the topic...
While I thought it was a bit weird at first, it certainly wasn't gamebreaking in any sense. Just left me scratching my head for why they decided to go that way with it. And honestly, it was different, which is definitely to the good.

I really think removing alloys wasn't the right way to fix it though. But what's done is done. It would mean a lot more work now to go back than to just leave it as is. (Kinda like another hot button issue atm which will remain nameless.)

Copper-iron alloy is a real thing. The change was intended to create a different progression requiring copper, then silver, then gold, but some people got all up in arms about it before they could balance it (As it made tier 5 literally pointless as you could jump directly to 6 due to ore distribution), but now we have an even more illogical progression in a universe where Titanium is somehow stronger than Tungsten.

I know next to nothing about tensile strength of the various metals, but isn't titanium more flexible than tungsten, thus making at least a little sense? Or am I misremembering? It's been a long time since high school. I know tungsten has the highest atomic weight of any of the elements, but I thought it was rather brittle without mixing in another metal.

And yes, copper and iron is a real thing, but I wouldn't call it steel. Lol. It's weird how various names of things get people all up in arms. If they had just called it bronze or brass I wonder if it would have had the same negative reaction from the playerbase.

I'm really tired of seeing chains of posts like Lazarus' that simply go into denial for the lifespan of a thread, especially when the answer is so clear, so logical, and so easy to implement. And know that while I am not trying to single you out, if your going to posts backwards logic on multiple threads simply to kill off meaningful suggestions by running on a baseless argument until someone slips up and a moderator comes in to shut both speakers down without picking either side, but simply to silence the both of them (which is all to common now, practically starbound forum meta for getting rid of an idea you don't like), you will be accountable for what you say.

Milk + Strawberry Syrup =/= Chocolate Milk
Milk + Strawberry Syrup = Strawberry Milk

While it is completely acceptable for made up metals from space to do whatever they want (for all we know, rubium could be some new element of super quartz that emanates a constant flow of energy), iron is clearly iron and steel is clearly steel. If they didn't want to deal with the fact that iron + copper =/= steel, then they could have simply avoided using those implicit names. But since they are using them, they should stay true to them.

If you're going to use something as widely known as steel, don't make a mess of the recipe people have been using in both reality and video games.
Iron + Coal = Steel, and that's that, otherwise go ahead and name tier two metals Pretendium + Liesum Ore = Lazarusalt, and it would be plenty believable.

Furthermore, as you've already stated the current ore progression is in fact broken. Tier five has become obsolete since the tier six gold requirement completely removes tier five from use in the game, further proving the point that the copper -> silver -> gold progression is inept from even a game mechanics perspective. So why defend a broken mechanic rather than try to help us improve upon it?

Seeing how messed up both the ore distribution and tiers for armors that have tensile strengths from real life alloys are, there should be a revamp of the ore/tier progression anyway. Rather than accepting things that are indeed wrong, we should be fixing things and making them better, right? Yah! That's what a community is all about!

Steel used in games is based on high carbon steel, thus people commonly think iron + coal(carbon) = steel. Iron + copper is another type of steel alloy that is high in copper, not carbon, so it is understandable why people reject this off the bat, simply because they are ignorant to the different types of steel alloys, as shown by your whole comment. "Steel" is not universally iron and carbon, where as chocolate milk, as the name implies, is literally made from chocolate and milk.

If you are going to call me out, please know what you are calling me out for.

Titanium is light and flexible, but is not good for protection. Tungsten is vastly stronger in most every way. Heavier, yes, but the game doesnt deal with weight. They are just misrepresenting the materials.

You may not call copper and iron alloy "steel", but it is indeed a steel alloy. There are many types out there for different things. Stainless steel, for one, is high in chromium.
