I'd like it to be on Steam, with Steam Workshop so it's easy to mod. But the developers said there will be another easy way to mod it, like messing with config files or something. It'd also be nice to have it available other ways, Like Desura or just a .zip.

Me GUSTA....... but what i hate about steam..... I bought skyrim... everythin was fine.... I bought Empire:Total War and had to download it. there were 2 DVD's full of data and i couldnt install it from the DVD's I never installed it, because Steam said it would need 16 days to download °-°

Ah...those estimates are always off...just leave it overnight... ;-)
I am hoping for a Steam release because that makes all the office-work and background stuff easy on the devs. I also love that the game auto-updates so I always have the current patches without having to go search for them online. (looks at YOU, Sid Meier...)

Im curious how Steam would handle a game with Linux support? Otherwise, Im sure they will aim for steam.

Very good point Blue. It will probably be multiple releases. In and out of steam.:O

I suppose you only need to buy the game on steam and download it like always. Game connections between players will be handled through the game and not steam and thus you shouldn't have any problems. After you have the game downloaded it also doesn't matter if steam has connection problems or not. You'll still be able to play the game.

Regarding Steam offline mode. If the steam client can't connect to the server it asks you if you want to close it or go to offline mode where you can play games that don't require a steam server connection like maybe starbound. And that's very much it. I would be surprised if Starbound would work any different from what i described.

Personally I'm a huge fan of Steam. While I hope they provide other means to purchase the game for those who are in a situation where Steam is simply not a viable option, I love the convenience that Steam has provided me. It's one of the biggest reasons that I'm as interested in indie games as I am. And it's just a lot easier for me to have all of my games in one place if I ever have to wipe my hard drive. Steam makes recovering all of my games incredibly easy.

    Your argument is invalid :p
Steam is nice, you can also obtain some gift codes :D

  12. Yea, considering steam is one of the most well-run and reliable game distribution system, it'll most likely be on steam.
And I want it to be on steam, too, because I've got 56 cents in my steam wallet.

lets hope the guys at steam don't screw up like they did with the M&B:WB:NW release yesterday. they only had so much faith in the title that they only bought 500 keys

needless to say that they were out of keys within half an hour :giggle:

other than that, i want it on steam, too.

Wait, there was an update to Mount and Blade warband? I thought they were done with that! I mean, they even have some of the devs overseeing War of the Roses from what i have heard!

you have 56 more cents the me lol

maybe they will have a special 56 cent sale. that would be awesome.

on topic: i agree that steam should probably be the way to go. if they can get front page on steam it will really help sales, and show off the game to alot of people who may not be aware of it.

Please, I have 4 cents.

Starbound I think will more then likely be on steam, Its one of the best ways to get your game known and deliver it to the customer cheaply and easily. Jus sayin.

if you click go offline it says it vant connect to the servers. you cant start it if you hadnt had internet on the day you want to play. If you have internet for one second everything is just fine, but if you start your computer without it and dont get some of it(a little bit internet :) ) you cant play your games.

i never said steam is bad. I love steam too, but there are problems which they should fix.

    I despise steam.
In concept, its great, download games, dont worry about losing disks.
In practice, their software is buggy on a good day, and if you dont have internet for whatever reason, you cant even play single player games.
I hope that if steam is used it isnt required.
But like so many other games, it will be.
And after I pay money to actually buy the game, I will torrent a version without steam asshattery to actually play the thing.

    Bine Scruffy Nerf-Herder

Sorry Kyrinthic. You havent used the steam software obviously. It has a single player offline mode. If your internet shits out on you, your still on your steam account and capable of playing games (and if you do have internet and steam itself is being buggy, many multiplayer games that dont run off steam servers are still playable). Among other things. Steam is a wonderful program. You just obviously havent bothered to use it xP
