Steam Workshop?

I'd really rather have the Steam Workshop, because that Starbound is on steam, It shouldn't have its own mod installer unless you have to pay monthly/yearly, etc. To have a Steam Workshop. I don't want to download any additional software just to add mods, but if the developers of Chucklefish were to make a Steam Workshop, I'd be happier than having to install an additional software that would take up more space.

Since it's very cloudy on what the answer was for me, is to adding a workshop of their own, or adding the workshop on steam.

Huh? You don't install any additional software to run the mod, except for the mod itself, which I think you have to download regardless of if you're using Steam Workshop or not. At least, I'm guessing that Steam Workshop downloads mods onto your computer, instead of keeping them on Steam's servers. Even then, if you were to download even a hundred mods, the amount of space they would take up in the grand scheme of things would be negligible. Although, Steam Workshop integration would make installing mods easier for people who don't know how to do so manually.

    Exactly my point.
Will they integrate to Steam, or are they going to make their own Workshop?

Also, The additional software I mentioned was supposed to be the Workshop that installs mods, if anybody has gotten it wrong.

I find that having the mods hosted on playstarbound.com to be much easier and user friendly than having them hosted on the Steam Workshop, at least from a mod user's perspective. I still have a tough time going through the workshops of several games I play.

Well, I know how hard it is uploading to the steam, but if you think of others before yourself, the subscribers just only has to click that button to start downloading the mod, and thus at least making your mod's way to be on the first list of the most popular mods.

And for Starbound, they click "Download Now" and extract the mod to the mods folder. It's very simple and straightforward, and you do not have to worry about Steam undoing any edits you've made to the mod.

Also, one of my actual problems with the Steam Workshop is that there is no "Download" or "Install" button. There is just "Subscribe" and you aren't given any indication that that is the "Download" button. And then the mods only download when you start up the game you want to mod, and not before like you can do for Starbound now, so you have to awkwardly wait while they download while you are in the game.

Plus, you have to factor in compatibility issues, bug reports and other factors. I prefer the CF forums to the Steamcommunity layout because it is less weird.

All in all, I prefer the current method of installing mods, even though Chucklefish has some bugs to work out of the system like file size limits and upload errors.

Actually given the addition of the launcher and the size of mods, I think it'd just take a matter of seconds. And with Workshop, they'd be able to set it to automatically add it into the mods folder. Would be slightly more convenient, and even remove having to redownload the mods whenever there's an update as it'd do them automatically.
I don't feel compatibility troubleshooting would be really different. If you end up with one after downloading a single mod, it's clear what's causing the issue. And it's just poor form to add a whole bunch at the same time.

Since downloading mods is kinda different for me, it downloads where the folder is for normal stuff you download, not directly to the mod directory of Starbound, so I have to do the complicated way to install mods myself.

Yes, navigating to the mods folder and extracing a file or folder to it is "complicated", much in the same way that putting on a pair of pants is "complicated".

Once you install one or two mods, installing more and more mods is about as complicated as breathing.

Thanks for your sarcasm, as I haven't done extracting things, and when I do extract, It gives me errors. What I've been using is 7zip, and all of the mods is .zip, but it thinks it's some other kind of file, and it denies it. Re-installing does solve the problem, but when I want to extract another, I have to re-install it. Do you think it IS that complicated, if you had this problem?
I don't trust WinRar, the popups are annoying...

Have you tried setting the default program for opening .zip files to 7zip? I use 7zip all the time because it came with my computer and have yet to encounter an error where it does not open ZIP files.

This is also a rather unique user error problem, and does not relate to the overall "complexity" of installing mods in Starbound.

If it's a .zip file, shouldn't you be decompressing it, not extracting it?

I like the idea of having a steam workshop more then the extracting stuff..
It reminds me of minecraft... Oh what a nightmare that was trying to get mods (And that never worked)

So what happens to all of us that paid to have a non-Steam copy? Is it "Too bad, you need Steam if you want mods HA HA!"?

No.. they could make a workshop for those who have steam and leave the current one for those who dont

And what if there were mods only available through the Steam Workshop and not available at the main website?

It should probably be left as is. Unlike installing Minecraft mods, it's really, really easy to install Starbound mods if you have a modicum of patience.
