Question, Are we talking in the news section of the game? Or did the mods stop cross-posting in the announcements.

I am guessing OP means like an actual "this week/month in starbound" super post into the news feed. I actually would support that, Since it would let people who don't take part in steam communites know they were not abandoned. I understand not assulting them with crossposting right to the news announcement feed.

    @Gothraga
In the mean time, if you want to show your friend CF has not forgot about them there are the playstarbound.com to let them know what is going on and the nightlies if they want to see that is being done.

Isn't the Steam version the only version?

Anyway, I think just having links to the main site blog posts in the Steam Library for Starbound would save a lot of time and effort.

The steam community I'm sure is what they are talking about. Eventually when the game is released there is a plan to have a version for sale/download for this website.

The steam community mainly exists because most of the users cant stand the hug fest here or have been banned here, so the community is split from here to steam and Reddit as well. Sure they could provide news updates and such but most users there and other places than here would be more complacent in just seeing an update rather than constant rehashing of talking about them

While I wish the steam community wasn't bad, they are. It may not be their fault, but they take the news too negatively and even out of context. I find that they are too impatient and never check anywhere but the Starbound news feed without considering the website, or here. I don't know enough about the reddit community to comment. My point is, I don't think simply putting what they are doing in the news feed would be enough for people on steam.

Pretty much true. I know a few of the active community members hate CF and just view the updates as "pointless words that mean nothing coming from the mouth of liars and thieves."

We will have to see what someone like @mollygos thinks about this idea.

Thanks for reading through the unappealing wall of text.

I would love to see what a few active voices that do not play White night, but give actual evidence the game is still worth paying for, as compared to the 5 people that dis the nearest game that may or may not have made unwise decisions in the past in the Steam community, rather than the closed minded clustercuss is is today.

I agree that it needs a @mollygos touch.

Edit: This was not meant to bash steam. I am sorry If it came off that way. Also their distrust of SBF was not meant to sound unfounded, they HAVE had issues with them in the past. CF is not perfect and Steam Forums are not the enemy. I hope I cleared this up.

You should see MY walls of text.... which is incoming...

I used post to the steam forums the it just depressed me. It is so negative there. (it is here too, which is why I section off myself to just clans from time to time). It is hard to prove the game is still worth paying for in the steam community. Outpost where hailed as "devs taking the easy way out and changing the goalpost" (no longer a story in a sandbox but a story outside a sandbox with no reason to explore non-quest planets) and nightles as "a smug attempt to silence dissident by giving whitekinghts a crappy buggy version of a game to point to an say 'there are your thick and fast updates'". Not to mention the evidence of work tends to come from a biased party (the devs) who have a reputation for "dishonesty and trolling" among the users of said community. So much so the announcement of mods coming lead to them being told "We don't need you and your damage control and censorship is not welcome here nor our your white knights trying to 'fix us'". Now from what I last saw it is modded by @Finn Learson who they still really don't trust (he is an SBF mod, really not popular there) and a steam moderator who has to lurk there because leaving anyone from SBF there alone leads to steam getting a lot of complaints about improper moderation I believe mainly due to SBF mods being seen as biased towards their "employer".

But really being positive overthere is hard for me. Most of my "proof" that the game is worth buying can be countered with "And you really trust their word after getting the released date wrong 3 times, not making thick and fast updates, being rude to the community, zealous bans, trolling, misappropriating SB funds to offices and dogs, only getting the game out 28 day early despite 2 million dollars, and all?" and there is no way to counter claims like "While @Supernorn was moved to starbound to do art I think that @kyren was sent to pirate project to fix a coding issue " since the only "proof " against that I could summon up is "CF says that is not the case" and well their word means \dev\null to the members of Dissenters Anonymous (Steam group formed by SB Steam forum users to "oust the deceptive practices of Chucklefish and other companies that seek to use the shell of Early Access to scam customers". Most the negative voices are members. Not saying this is some conspiracy just that most the vocally negative people decided to found a group together).

But yes, A team of people who understand who can give evidence that CF is not a bunch of lazy trolls who just wanted to make millions but are trying to make the game and do care about their past customers not just the future customers. A bit of positivity without outright whiteknighting would do good. Both sides have good points, CF has made a lot of less than ideal choices but I don't think they have malicious intent when making them.

Glad I made it through that wall! whew. :coffee:

I left he Steam forums for the exact reason. It's hard to stay hyped for a game when everybody else hates on it for not posting on steam, but using their own website. Much of CF's poor reputation on steam was formed by users of steam themselves using everything they can to Make CF look bad. Once again revisiting my point: There needs to be some kind of moderation, or anything that makes that place less of a smokey abyss where hype goes to die. Also the people twisting CF's words don't help. As for Early Access, I admit that attracts some of the wrong kinds of attention unless your game is the second coming. I would feel better staying away from places like the Steam forums if this is what they boil down to. Even the groups that are created drive me away from the steam community as a whole, these are the people you play Garry's Mod, or Counter Strike with, and I don't really want to play with them.

All in all, Steam is a terrible place, any hype that once was is gone and moves to greener pastures, namely here, or some reddit users.

  14. I (and by I -- I mean all of us) would avoid making this discussion "Steam needs updates too" to "Steam is a terrible place".

You are extremely correct. Sorry about that. I went a little too far saying it all sucks, It's just not a place to get clear news. If some godlike entity was able to keep both Steam and the CF forums happy I think it would be a much better place than it is now. It's merely a case of an extreme misunderstanding.

I did not mean to imply that if I did. Steam users are an important part of our community and they do have valid points (I agree with some of their points).

    To all:
The point of my post was not to dis steam or say "they are all lame haters" just to say I think people are right in the assertion that with our sister forum on steam actions (the update) will speak louder than any words and while adding a collection of updates to the news feed might help users learn more about progress it will not fix the issue of some people still not trusting CF is actually working on the game and not just blowing smoke.

I don't think anything but real update could calm Steam community down. Even update will barely help, as ppl are clearly opposed to some gameplay changes. In short, CF lose PR game, everything the goona do will be filtered through "negative" prism.

    @ linkthegamer, Mollynator
Lol.... i just love the hypocrisy.... Guy made a thread asking Devs to post more news in Steam.... and exactly a couple 6 posts later it developed into discussion about how bad Steam community is... You're doing exactly the same thing, you accused the Steam Community of. Coating it in nice words will do you no good, for you critics are "lame haters", because you don't want to read into their arguments, and so, we don't want to read into yours. The fact is everything you wrote
, every negative point have some background for it. Yeah, almost everything can be read one way or another, but it is CF to blame that all critics, and i'm speaking about ppl who really know about the game and all it background, gathered on Steam and started spreading venom. And imposing strange rules in Steam community, constantly closing thread (yeah, i'm not speaking about "Hurr, Durr you scAmed! us !" threads) not helping at all. Even banning doesn't help as i saw a lot of members being banned and -un-banned constantly.

I sorry, I really did not mean to bash steam. I forgot to think my post through... it is about time I take a leave from being involved in this again. I really did just mean to say CF does not have a good repore on Steam so giving them more news will not really sate them. I do agree that there have been overmodding issues, such as Omni's breakdown and Sea being overzealous in some locks/bans/whatevers. Sorry I failed to represent that. I went to post one thing but let my need to purge the contents of my memory get the better of me.

Edit: Post in question edited to fix some of the issues brought up.

Steam community members are mostly normal gamers and fellas with a critical judgement.
CF forum community members are mostly fanboys and fellas who would shine the shoes of CF.
That's why this forum's members are unfriendly toward the Steam community, they criticise their beloved product and company.

Then someone quotes me and says "the Steam are banned members who were haters here", or "people who come here to post aggressive comments".
Well, then I wonder why the Steam community for SO MANY early alpha gamers is very nice and helpful.
    Maybe the problem lies here?

I do need to check myself to make sure I remain as neutral as I can.

I do agree there is an issue of US (SBF) falling into the "all steam critics are bad" bandwagon. I do remind myself that they do make some valid points on how things are handled here and at CF and also that CF has still made mistakes in handling the game. I do hate when I slip, I don't want to fall into either of the polarities (Fanboy or Dissident).
