Yes, you can. Technically Complete means 'Not Quite Complete' and not "Not Quite Complete Except you can Sell Things."

This is called a tech preview or an alpha... its by no means complete, technically complete, or feature complete.

I understand what you're saying, Chucklefish so far is honoring their word to continue development when they could cut their losses and give us fez, but that's not enough to excuse their behavior because they have been negligent. Just like if someone runs over a pedestrian and there is proof of negligence on the driver of the motor vehicle, we don't just sweep it under the rug

    Feels like it man!

  7. No excuses -- just saying -- in all the development time; there was a point where it seemed like THAT was what you were gonna get. Then CF listened to the community and was like "yeah, no way -- this needs to be way cooler with more stuff"

But let's try to stay on point.

What behavior are they trying to excuse? That they've listened to the community over and over again and each time you people have turned right back around and bit them on the hand and made a new demand? How dare they!

That they want to finish this update and release it as a complete patch instead of generating more work by trying to piece it out in parts, dealing with bug fixing each piece release while also trying to work on the next pieces? Those devils!

Actually, 'technically complete' would mean that based on the facts or committed goals the game is feature complete but they may need to tweak a few things or add some enhancements.

The proof is in the pudding, you can't "sell" items and that is a pretty big feature when you're talking about in-game economy / stabilization.

  10. The thing is, By preordering you was just giving them money with the Benefit of getting the game in some for early, sorta like Kickstarter

  11. ok ok -- let's not argue this anymore

I was merely pointing out -- we could have been handed a "complete" game a while ago -- but it wouldn't be the game anyone wanted Starbound to actually be

I guess we'll just have to wait it out for now.
While I think it's nigh impossible for this new patch to meet the expectations that come out of 6 months without any stable updates, we will have to judge the patch when it gets released.

TBH They're about to stop development and "finish the game" real soon so they can work on their secret game thats "Totally not Minecraft"

  13. Likewise -- I think while the negative reviews are a good glance-point for the state of progress (unfortunately not the state of the game), the important reviews to watch will be when the game is released.

That's only because the most vocal parts of this community have completely bonkers expectations of the Devs, to be brutally honest. They get mad and froth at the mouth like wild dogs because Chucklefish dare to do such horrific things like 'have a weekend' or 'keep office hours'. A lot of people seem to think they shouldn't have a social life or spend any time/money if it doesn't directly relate to the game.

And you should probably think about why they hate Chucklefish. What chucklefish could do to appease to the angry community. Chucklefish were once loved when they first released Starbound. Why did it came to this now? There are companies out there that are loved, treasured by everyone. Instead of treating complaints and review as "Mundane" rant, Chucklefish should probably think about where they comes from, and why can't Chucklefish appeal to their customers like other companies. What they could do or change to save their reputation.

I guess it's because the people at Chucklefish haven't really decided on a stable development process.
Do we want thick and fast? Do we want nightly updates?Do we want daily updates on the website?Do we want to be completely transparent?
It's been a mixed bag and it happened to step on most people's toes because of that.

If we compare it to Terraria,(sure, Terraria is a finished game but spare me the analogy) not many people if any at all are upset because of the lack of updates.
    Why is that?
Well, while the Terraria beta was satisfying in itself, the developers have proven themselves to be competent and update the game in a timely fashion and with satisfying content to boot. The daily updates Starbound had were usually just a few tweaks or something insignificant, albeit in a timely fashion and this huge overhaul of an update has taken maybe too much time while promising satisfying content.

The forums at the time were filled more with hype threads rather than lack-of-update-rant threads.
Terraria didn't have daily updates nor did it have daily blog posts. The most people got was a spoiler every month or so. And it worked.

Following your logic and Whisena, There was a time when the Terraria forums were filled with more hate than Starbound is now. That has changed because Redigit changed his stance on whether Terraria was 'done' or not...

The community able to forgive, but there needs to be actual results...

I think this is an even better reason for CF to spend their time on the next patch, and make sure it's as good as possible. Players' expectations are going to be very high after a long period between Stable updates, and they will be very disappointed if it's a half-patch or only contains half of the content shown in the daily blog updates.

If CF can deliver a patch that is full of meaningful content, and does not contain too many bugs or performance problems, I think that a lot of the community would happily be spending their time playing the game, instead of writing reviews or being frustrated that they need to play other games while waiting for this one to update.

But, until that patch hits the Steam servers, I don't think anything we can do now will make people believe in CF more, or believe in CF less. Actions, not words, you know?
