Where do you start on a multiplayer server? is it on a specific planet or random? Maybe it is scattered in the same system? Thanks in advance!
Not sure. They've considered having it so that it's either random or you spawn with everyone else. I don't know what they wound up doing, but it might be the latter.
I'm personally hoping server owner have three options, same planet, same sector and random, which can be changed in the config. However, same planet should be default, for people who don't really know what they're exactly doing with the server and just want to play with friends.
If I remember correctly when the stream during the UK expo, everyone spawned on the same planet. so I would reckon that would be how it starts.
Actually a combination of both would be pretty awesome in my opinion. Players could spawn of different planets (dependant on their race) in somewhat close proximity to each other, not too close to make people safe from griefers and obnoxious PvP guys and not too far to not make it ridiculously hard to find your buddies, maybe even add a limit of like 5/10/15 players spawns per planet? What do you think?
It would be great if there is an option for spawning on public servers or team/clan based servers. On a public server I'd like to be the only person on my starter planet and once I begin to travel run into other players.
I guess this would be my preference as well. First starting off with mainly your race, then being able to visit other races on other planets. So for example, this would also be awesome for alliance between races.. or WAR!
Spawning on different planets wouldn't work well for when a team of several people want to collectively start a new game from scratch. They would be isolated from each other until they all repair and fuel their ships, ruining the early game experience. I think the "default" setting should be "same planet", but advanced server configuration (possibly post-release) would allow customized rules. For larger servers, this could even include a balancer which spawns players at planets appropriate for their tier, so you don't have players with tier 10 gear join a planet where tier 1 players are playing, which would spoil the experience.
Actually, yes I was starting to question that myself. Having the default setting as the "same planet" would be the best now that I think about it properly. I support this
Don't think they changed it and don't think they will. For a global official server it's best to spawn on a random level one planet, but lvl 1 planets are probably only usefull for doing the tutorial gattering fuel and moving on. For private server I'm pretty sure it's better to just make everyone spawn on the same planet. Servers often build some sort of custom starting base for players where they state special rules and describe special mods and whatnot that may be running in that server.
I agree. When the game comes out, I'll definitely want to spawn on the same planet as my brothers so we can play together from the start.
I'm hoping that they generate a few starting planets that are already preset and just in the same general area, but it is random which one you start on. That way you may not have to start of the same planet in multiplayer, but you can easily get to each other. Well, unless the server toggles random starter planets or not, that is. If they have random starter planets off it should all be the same. For that matter, it should be toggle-able for the server player.
I guess honestly that would depend on the server, random,or set on the planet coordinates,or even bare coordinates Since you can give your friend coordinates,so he can go on them in his game, and the place would be exactly the same
I believe they said in the i49 video that they want us to start on a first tier planet. It did have them all start on the same planet also. They had a lot of features removed on that one and they used a seed instead of randomly generating the world, we can only guess right now at what they plan for start. I like the idea of either starting on the same planet or as a previous post said starting on planets close to each other.
