I hope they let us choose from a set of starter equipments. Starter stuff could be broken down into different setups. They could also give our characters a set amount of creation points. Basically money but used to buy starting equipment and disappears once the character is created. Everyone would get the basic starter tools. IE: Whatever the resource gathering tools are. Next they could choose from several starting setups. Marine: Gun, Ammo, Basic Armors, some one time use weapons like grenades. Medic: Weak Gun, Ammo, Basic Armors, Limited Medical Equipment (perhaps a tool to make medicine supplies from plants/animals found on the world), A tool to use the medical equipment on teammates/npc's since otherwise the medic is just a supply creator which is ditched later on when not needed. Soldier: Sword, Shield ,Basic Armor. (This is basically to satisfy the need for a melee user. Shield could be substituted for a weak ranged weapon.) <Insert other starting setups here.> For custom characters we would use Creation Points. Say 1000 to 2500 points for buying the equipment. Bullets would cost 1 to 10 points each depending on type and would eat up points fast. Weapons would be chosen from a set of basic weapons, armors from a set of armors, tools and items from a basic set of items. Doing things this way would allow for a larger amount of customization for the players along with a basic setup for people who want to jump right in.
I assume the blaster pistol we've been seeing so far on the screenshots is the some sort of starter weapon. But yeah, a plasma revolver sounds amazing. I'll have to sprite it xD
Hey, that reminds me. Nice youtube channel. Me too good chap, me too. Overall in my opinion we should start with nothing but find things while in the starting mission (like a crowbar, half-broken plasma revolver, greatsword, etc..)
some sorta explosive weapon, generic assault rifle, or even just your own fists and you have to find your first weapon ~Jake
^ As in starting colours or something. What colour laser it shoots or its design. Maybe it could even level up the more you use it! ~Jake
Not level up, but you should be able to upgrade. And you could clean it etc.. if it gets broken over time.
Thanks! Yeah, weapons are going to be customizable/upgradable, that's pretty much assumed at this point, with the stuff that's on the FAQ/About page. That space station will have a metric ton of stuff.
A low-yield training pistol or rifle would be cool. Again I don't get why people feel melee weapons belong in the future (or the present) but something the equivalent of today's .22 rifles and pistols would be a great cheap starter weapon, good enough to take small game for food and can cause hurt to small and medium enemies.
well you start by finding an abandoned space station... I would like to think its armoury is slightly better equipped than just pointy sticks, at least like sticks with pointy rocks.
This, exactly this. Maybe old training pistols and rifles leftover from whoever abandoned the station. They didn't consider those weapons worth their weight to evacuate with, so they were left there. US Military does this with older weapons trying to determine if they are worth more by shipping them home or just scrapping them on the spot and selling the material.
Well actually, if the US military was smarter they would save a few of the really old guns because people would pay lots to have a gun that was used way back when.
Gotta reply to this. Last I checked it costs plenty of time and manpower to de-mill a low-grade Colt M4 from full-auto to semi-auto. Parts would be worn out as well, and shipping them mass of guns home gets expensive via chopper or plane. Now not saying Colt is a cheap company, they are not, but the military buys it's weapons from the lowest bidder. Because of this competition between companies the military is often able to get a new batch of rifles that don't need modification or repair for the same price or cheaper than bringing back the old ones from some parts of the world. Also collectors are an odd market. Sometimes the dumbest ideas are the most collectable 100 years down the road, yet the inventor dies poor. Never count on collectors of tomorrow for the future prices of items today, the best stuff today might be considered so trashy it offends the future person.
