Starship

Is there any way to change the appearance/size/shape of your starship without modding? I'd really like to make my Starship my primary base of operations, but it is far too small as it is.

Also, I feel really stupid that it took me a long time to figure out that coal could be used as a fuel...<.< I feel like that should have been mentioned somewhere in those tutorial missions for those of us that just aren't too swift.

 

Not yet however the artwork for the human ship progression as well as the Glitch top level ship has been posted on the forums.

 

Darn. It would be nice if you could just modify/build it just like you would a house or other structure. I get that it doesn't make much sense to be able to tear down the wall of your starship while your in space, since you'd die. But it would be cool if there were a space dock you could visit, where you could do that kind of construction in a hanger or something, then launch your new ship when your done.

I would rather it not be a case of having to choose from a series of pre-made starships. That takes a lot of the fun a creativity out of the game in my opinion.

 

Tiy said that blocky custom built ships didn't look very good, and I agree, this is the best way to go.

 

So far the designs haven't disappointed me. The Glitch having a flying fortress as their later tier ship is right up my alley

 

I feel that if they did make it that you could build your ship block by block, then there would no reason to have a home base since there wouldn't be any limit to the size of your ship. (Come the full release version of the game.)

 

Haha, yeah right Some of the ships made via MadTulip's ship mod look downright fantastic.

 

I suppose. Still, some level of customization would be nice. Pre-make the hull and let us build the interior.

 

He was talking about the Fully Customizable Ship mod, which is fully block built. MadTulip's does looks great, but all in all its still mostly built with blocks.

 

Keyword SOME. Plus this way helps preserve the racial identity of the chosen race.

You can already do that. You can take down the back wall and put up whatever you want and you can put in the ship whatever you wish as well

 

Yeah, that's exactly what's happening, the hull is pre-built, but you can do whatever you like with the outside. You can also destroy the back wall and change it to something else.

 

Oh, okay then. So I guess I just need to wait for it to be implemented then.

 

Yup, ship progression will come, you just need to be patient.

 

I don't think people will stop settling on planets solely because it's more efficient to just stay on the ship. A lot of people just plain like colonizing.

And iirc the devs have plans that will make colonizing worlds more worthwhile. A lot, if they follow through with it all.

Regarding modular ships, I think you should be able to swap out parts, and definitely upgrade the size of your ship, but I don't think it should be infinitely expandable. I also think any hull expansions that do get implemented should be pretty expensive.

I don't see why not, as long as the fuel cap gets increased accordingly.

 

I kinda like the way it is now. I remember when I first got Minecraft and I had no idea what to do, but once I figured it out, it was really rewarding. I figured out that coal was fuel for the ship based on common sense. Coal is used as fuel, so makes sense that it would fuel the ship too.

But alas, I think there should be some sort of hint. Although I like games where they don't hand you everything on a silver platter, there should be some way to figure things out. Maybe a hint in the tooltip. Something like: "I wonder if this can fuel anything..."

 

I also found the use of coal as ship fuel counterintuitive at first. I didn't think coal was a suitable fuel for a spaceship for some reason, so it took me a while before I attempted to fuel the ship with it.

 

well it is possible for a steam engine to power a starship. it makes electricity and enough electricity can get er dun.

 

Maybe, I dunno. My astrophysics is, uh, rusty.
