Yeah, that's a major problem for implementing it in the game.

It's also obvious when a star is nearing collapse, because of the mass, temperature and stellar winds. A red giant or super red giant would be near collapse, but the red giant phase can last 1.5 billion years. So if you come to a solar system with a red giant, the world orbiting would likely be cold or frozen over because there isn't very much heat from the red giant. it would be a scary place and I doubt anyone would settle there or stick around. But if they did it would still probably take a billion years or so for the thing to explode.

I think the idea of 2 real life weeks is a bit more plausible (even if unrealistic) than a real life billion years.

If they want star explosions in the game, yes, absolutely.

The time to collapse would have to be reasonable. I was just trying to provide helpful information, like how the signs would be very telling. A solar system with a red giant moments from collapse would not be a pleasant place to be, it would be obvious something is very wrong and I don't think any planets in such a solar system would support life (at least not for long).

Actually, what if we could build glass-like capsules on our city which will protect it from the explosion?

That may not make any sense since an explosion like that could shatter the planet, but still... it would be an interesting option, wouldn't it?

If he is talking realistically, then realistically this wouldn't happen to every star out in the game's universe. Unless you played for "millions of years."

It'd be neat if it were possible to detect that the star is about to go nova very early. Perhaps years before it happens. (Like reality, there are some warning signs that happen when your star is about to go nova.) Then the challenge is to stop it. Perhaps you'd have many hours of play to either stabilize the star with giant electro-magnets or something, move the entire planet out of the way, or get off and move to another planet. It might be a neat game mode to mod in, too, that as soon as you start, you have x hours of gameplay to get to another system or DIE.
What would be even cooler is a weapon that could cause any star to go nova and explode, so that you can go and feast off the wreckage and rare materials that will appear.

You should explain and not just make a poll.

    I'd rather they not, actually.

death stars, dead stars should be Darkbound worlds, but should also have the Lucent outpost in it too, or in surrounding solar systems.

Most likely darkbound will turn into a mod though..

I think different stages in the Star life cycle is a great idea. I mean, there would have to be some realism in there, for example only red giants go supernova, and these things do take a long time. I could see it being scripted into quests but not as something that just randomly happens though.
