Starbound's weapons, too generic?

How unique do you think Starbound's weapons were in the streams?

Well those are early videos. All weapons will be random. Sooo...
    Not really generic.
Its more likely you'll end up with a rather vaguely dong shaped pistol that happens to shoot white bullets than a regular pistol that shoot regular bullets...

Cause' that's all we have to work with. Yea I can't formulate a full opinion on it, but that's the purpose of this thread, to discuss what we thought of the weapons in the stream.

Tiy made that orbital strike gun just for the hell of it, and he said he did it without any sort of programming, just using the built in procedural generators and some tweaking with them. The fact that they have the ability to make stuff like that, and are aware of it, should tell you they wont just pass creating awesome stuff like that up.

And remember the weapon system works a lot like Borderlands so many of the random guns will have similar firing methods and projectiles but will have varying attributes like rate of fire that make them unique. Not every weapon will have a completely different feel from every other. And I agree that we're probably setting a small portion of what will actually be in-game.

If they had AK-47s, M16s and so forth, then I'd call the weapons generic. For now, I think they're pretty good. Plus, since they're randomly generated, there should be a near unlimited number of combinations.

Hey you--yeah, you! Stop being curious, it's tearing the community apart!

    Well that sounded vaguely autocratic.

I think what ArousedStars' point was, is that people are actively judging it, condemning flaws in the game we know little about. And yeah, there's the whole "Well they haven't shown us much and rabble rabble rabble" argument, but they've shown us a lot more than most devs. and people just need to get used to the idea that they should reserve those meaningful criticisms until they've gotten their hands on the game at large, and not a few streams which have most features disabled anyways.

Speculation and judgement are far afield from one another. While the latter is hasty, the former is totally cool and bonds an already tightly-knit fanbase. People should just not get so carried away with their opinions and ideas, is all.

Just saying, the mega/minishark isn't very unique at all. It looks like a small shark with a gun in it's mouth but in actuality it's just a generic rapid-fire weapon, the only unique thin about it is that it has a chance not to consume ammo. It didn't seem unbelievably silly at all either, it's basically just an ornate gun and not anything stranger than that.

What was bothering me was that guns were almost to random. What I mean is guns that look like sniper rifles could shoot like a shotgun. It was just a bit annoying to see that. I wish the basic function of the gun would reflect the look a bit to make it all plausible.

just so you know this is
the way most weapon generaters work is like this
    different values:
    they use variables like wep_type=1
    1-being pistol
    2-being sniper etc
then they add functions to the weapons based on what they are
after that they do a "test" to see if the weapon variation works or if its crap if it fails this the weapon is scrapped
then they set other variables such as the ammo the rate of fire and how much they can hold
then it spawns the weapon into the game and makes a save for the weapon

tiy most likely did it different but this is how most work:up:
