ALL the hazards will not be removed. Only hunger so far. The user you quoted is stating his opinion of the label "casual" which in no way reflects the state of the game.

CLARIFICATION: The gamemode labeled "casual" is exactly the same as the current "normal" in stable with the exception of the hunger bar being removed.

I just love the emotional rollercoaster of pride and horror that's going on. I'll just check once I get home.

Some of us like the hunger system. Again, Tiy would not be getting nearly as much hassle if he made these things all optional that could be ticked via little boxes on character creation, but no, somehow that's too confusing to some users or whatever.

That kind of thing takes a lot of time and effort to code. Time that would pull the devs away from other aspects of the game. User confusion has nothing to do with it.

Hassle? A lot of folks were in favor of the change when tiy floated the suggestion.

Praise the sun. I'm still cynical of the way pixel loss works, but this is a step in the right direction.

Okay, so there's till the very real risk of death because you went into a damn Floran Prison and they rammed zappy-prods waaaay up in there?

As far as I can tell, yes (although I have not tested that particular scenario). So in that sense, "casual" is a misnomer :)

Eh, that's really just a word choice issue, a simple tweak.

How about instead of making the words sound like "difficulty", go more with "play style" phrasing?

"Builder" - the one without the hunger bar or drops
    "Survivalist" - hunger bar, drops
    "Extreme Survivalist" - permadeath

So... now it's exactly as it is in stable, except with new names?
    (Except for the hunger thing.)

I have revised my proposed game mode namings.

BUILDER - No hunger or ore drops, only pixel loss. For those who focus on building stuff.
ADVENTURER - Hunger, ore drops. For those looking more for the semilethal challenges.
SURVIVALIST - Hunger, ore drops, permadeath. Go for it.

I think it'd be better to emphasize the different play styles this game encourages rather than try and "rank" what's "normal" and blarblar.

I have, and while can say Dark is hard(got about 500 hours in it, only beat it 5 times), it aint dickish if you pay atention, and few are the times you just randomly die, or are 100% doomed to fail.

Starbound Nightly, on the other hand...

Hey, just saying you dont drop all your equipment on death!

The workaround for this is an "advanced settings" tab. You pick your base choice from something (I particularly like M_Sipher's mode names), and it pre-selects some of the advanced settings. Then you can open up the tab and fiddle 'em manually to your own preferences if you want.

Man, there aren't enough No's going through my head to describe how wrong these options are.

Optional stuff is what we need, not lumped together stuff.

Make it so we have little boxes to check that allow us to decide if we want ore drops on death, and make it so there's an option that's only able to be checked (a sub-option if you will) that will make it so characters who have ore-drops on death (no ingots though, that's just being pointless, there's a line between so-called challenge and straight-up stupidity) that makes it so a character who allows their character to suffer ore-drop on death to get more ores on newly generated planets to compensate. If you take a character who isn't flagged for ore-drops on death to a planet that has been generated with larger and more frequent veins of ores, the game will punish you for trying to cheat the system by spawning greater amounts of mini-bosses that will be very aggressive.

In an older thread regarding nightlies and ore drops, I did a big list of options that could be selected to increase the risk for each character, but also rewarded them for taking the risks, because hey, they wanna take real risks in the game that go beyond simple save+exit warping (I never used the death warp, so I'm unlikely to be affected by this change, I just see it for the crap it is, that's it) to make their gaming experience more challenging and be rewarded for it, fine. Hell, the rewards for the required risk options could themselves be optional for those who want to make the game way more difficult than what anything CF could think up on their own, because we all know there are people out there who love self-imposed challenges and hardcore survival minimalist challenges too.

Plus, your ideas kinda fall flat a little since it's been pointed out in a recent dev-blog post that they're removing the hunger system and replacing it with a food-buff system.

Still, I could see your survivalist difficulty option being a sub-option where food buffs don't last as long, are at best, half as strong, and require you to use different types of food to avoid the buffs from becoming either A) pathetically short-lived weak buffs or actual debuffs because your character needs to eat a diverse selection of foods to, you know, survive.

Please elaborate these impossible situations that you cannot see beforehand that are not bugs.

As far as the difficulty is concerned, don't let gamer pride drive you nuts. We all get a handle on the game as we play.
