Doesn't make much sense to say that while having a cookie rapist avatar.

Yeah it's important to voice concerns before the game actually gets released. But these are the most active devs I have seen on a game.

If you want to, use mods to cheat or edit files yourself. Or use cheat engine. But you're an asshole if you do it on other peoples servers.

Perhaps a way for the 3D printer to grind-up base materials into pixels, like waste dirt/cobblestone.

I mean if you are like me you end up with stacks of dirt you end up trashing, a way to pixel them, like a refinery for normal blocks?

EDIT (To stop this being abused for weapon/armour use, all pixels got from grinded blocks could be kept internally in the 3D printer, to only be used in the printer)

Eh, there will be increased pixel gains other ways. (More tiers, selling items.)

Also about the weapon/armor thing at least atm you hardly need any pixels for that., so idk. Probably by the time something like this would be implemented other stuff would be implemented to increase pixel gains that would need to be tested first.

I mean, something like this sure could work if pixels for building definitely needs a buff but by the time it could be added other stuff should be coming out to help anyways.

Only thing that really bothers me is the 3D scanner destroying the item AND charging for the scan. That's insane. I can understand destroying it, as you're then able to have virtually limitless amounts of them (provided you have the pixels), but the scan also costing pixels seems like an unnecessary double dip.

The high pixel cost of the items should be tweaked a little, but I think the pixel earn rate at higher tiers (once they're implemented) will be so high, those costs will seem cheap.

As for the difficulty of finding blueprints? I actually like that - it encourages people to explore. If they don't want to explore, there is always trading.

Overall, crafting items not being so easy really just makes it that much more impressive when someone goes through the trouble of collecting the blueprints and building something.

Good point, could just be 'pellets' you get from either a) grind up waste material into pellets or b) buy them at printer with pixels if you need more.

I understand at higher tiers you have pixels up to your eyeballs, but some of us like to have pretty houses from the start :3

  11. Right now; I feel as though finding and acquiring in this game is fine. Find a pre-made castle -- loot -- build.

It's everything else related to building that's coming up short.

Your crafting options are horribly limited, and the 3D printer mocks you as you grind in combat for pixels.

The difficulty in getting the things you need to build feels like an 8 or a 9 out of 10. And if you're like me, and want to build something elaborate -- it IS going to take a long time just to get the materials. Then it will take a long time to build whatever.

I feel the difficulty shouldn't be a 2 or 3 in this regard. But some adjustments to crafting and the 3D printer can help bring it to about a 5 or 6 in difficulty. Which could still be time consuming and difficult -- but it will at least feel more "fair", thus preserving the enjoyment of the building side of the game.

A portable hand scanner to take to the surface and scan everything (for a cost?) to take back to the ship and import!

Would make sense that anything you have seen before, could have been scanned and uploaded?

They have made such a nice and smooth building interface and experience, would be a shame to let the printer ruin that

What I don't like is that it's more fake difficulty.

It's either ATM based on luck whether you get it or how much you grind pixels.

  14. Agreed -- right now crafting is a bit shallow, where it should provide some of the most depth in a game like Starbound.

Can you imagine how many already existing items you COULD craft with Plant Fiber -- but at the moment CAN'T? The goes for almost every material in the game.

    Like: Plant Fiber x 3 + Iron Block x 1 = Plant Block

There's potential for 1000s of these crafting paths that are simply not explored at all at the moment.

OMG CONTENT IS MISSING FROM BETA.

Pretty sure the 3d printer is actually not even implemented beyond like 10 items. Most of what you said come down to the fact that most of the features are not in yet.

And you know what. Minecraft has something called a creative mode..
When not in creative mode you still have to go find blocks and explore. Same in terraria.

Blah, contents missing and it will get better (pixel rates etc) but we've gone over that.

The current numbers listed on items would make sense if they kept higher level planned pixel rates in mind while making them (and selling items) but we're not sure about that.

  17. It is. I... I grinded the pixels to find out

But we're not here to complain about missing content -- we're discussing ways to rebalance the building side of the game against the current mechanics and crafting options that are available at the moment.

Even if what we discuss or suggest is already planned -- it helps to keep the topic active so the devs know to keep it on their radar. The active discussion can also bring up good ideas -- like the dropping/finding of unique block/decorations via blueprint

Actually it is not. See all those items with 0 pixel cost? That isn't 0 it is the lack of a value. 99% of the items in the game atm do not have a value set.

Why? Minecraft has creative mode. And even in minecraft if you are not in creative you have to actually play the game to get blocks to build.

  19. Malza

    Malza Great Scott!

But people would still play the game to get blocks to build. It would just consist of better options than look up Co-ordinates for base that has something, visit random planets hoping you find a certain block that's not even supposed to be rare, or grind out however pixels per item. The last might be fine if the pixel rates get a lot higher, but otherwise there should be better options.

    Edit: Quote broke

  20. I think I misinterpreted what you said.

Are you saying that the printer can only scan/hold 10 items in it's "memory"? Or are you just trying to elaborate how many items hold no value within the printer?

I'm also not sure what you are trying to say by this:
