Earlier on today I booted up Starbound and found the most interesting load screen yet, it was a rocky planet with tendrils so large they grew out of the surface of the world and high into space it's self. It was the beast that had attacked Earth but on another world, that or Earth is just a wasteland of rock now. So I continued on my day, started up my server and went scouting for a planet to make a temporary base on. That's when I found something disturbingly familiar. I found trees that looked very similair to the beast. Thing is, this wasn't the only planet I'd found the horrible beast-like trees on, another world had the same style truck to it's native trees! The beast perhaps invades a world, slowly replacing the local trees and imitating them. All until it's spread across the entire planet and then it reveals it's true nature and consumes the planet whole! Or you know, it could just be random generation. But hey, that wouldn't be as fun!
So menu screen generates a scene similar to what you see when you're in orbit of a planet. Your screen is above a tentacle biome. That strange beast you're referring to? Yea, that's the whole planet. You'll encounter them in later sectors. Weirder and weirder trees start showing up, too. Happy trails.
So they're everywhere?! I'll have to keep on guard then! Only just about to push into sector x today, looks like Starbound is going to be a lot weirder than I expected!
You've made it that far without finding a tentacle planet?? I think they start showing up in Gamma. It's a little underwhelming imo. There are some dinky tentacles that grow out of the ground like trees, but don't drop anything last I checked (last patch). Fingers crossed that they keep adding weird content like this. I mean, if we're going to visit alien worlds I want more than snow/desert/forest and other earth type biomes. There are some other unique biomes that I've found, flesh.. goo.. I dunno. cool stuff though.
To the tentacle forest? That'd be the first place I'd go if my character was a schoolgirl. Thankfully for the kiddies at home, I'm a completely genderless robot.
Ohh, I think I may of been on one a day or so ago, not really sure because I was planet hopping so much and not really paying attention to my surroundings. Ah, but you could be a completely genderless robot dressed like a schoolgirl!
you better protect your adapter, tentacle slime fouls it up something fierce, i hear. good thing i have a plug and the tentacles all are disgusted by me.
I think Tentacle planets is Starbound's version of the corruption (for those of you who have played Terraria). It's a spreading biome that infects other planets. Another clue is that most of the dirt on those planets is called "corrupted dirt"
