I would think it was really cool if when you "finish" terraria you will somehow transition into starbound. I know this wont work practically and all, and it wont happen, but it's a nice idea.
One way this could be possible is that you build a large multi-block structure which turns into a space ship when you right click on it with a super-rare items. It will then go into a cut scene where the spaceship launches, and the planet blows up behind, and then you go into starbound (Would fit well with the whole-home planet blown up theme).
So what do you think. This is not a serious suggestion, just a bit of fun.
Do you have any "transition" ideas?

Starbound is not a Terraria sequel. More of a spiritual successor, by a (50%) different dev team.

I know, I know. This is just a bit of fun.

  5. I personally feel that both universes should be kept apart, as they're quite different and unconnected. I'm not opposing a couple of Terraria easter eggs in Starbound, however. ^^

I think there will be at least one Terraria Easter egg in Starbound. Maybe an angel statue.

From all the deprivation and loneliness, the Guide finally reached his end. He exploded from the sheer sadness in an array of fireworks and crafting books. This caused the explosion of your home planet. Who caused the Guide to reach meltdown? It was that bird that you always tried to hit.

Or better yet, the guide is the final boss of starbound.

Hm, I figure that my multi-world traveling Terraria character had traveled and harvested from so many different worlds that he had decided to traverse back to his original home world, but somehow while he was tunneling to the surface he had found a rare pocket of condensed radiation that had mixed with some dark energy that had distorted his body into a strange new being. When he awoke from the dark radiation he was lost on a strange space station. He is still searching for his home world, but the space station offers him some new and interesting toys to play with.

  12. He's been hiding there all along, planting bombs in all your structures... laying traps everywhere...

He is the ultimate evil. In a desperate attempt to defeat you, he blows up the planet, but with some extraterrestrial penguins by your side, you manage to escape back into the depths of space, until you crash into a hulking metal structure...

I think that there should be an option to be stranded on your first planet till you build your first spaceship! Would be kinda the same thing.

This is my idea: your asshole Terraria character is the evil force that blows up your homeworld in Starbound. Bam.

I'll be honest, I don't like this idea at all. Like someone else already pointed out, this is not a Terraria sequel and really it should not be thought of as one. While Terraria is a amazing game and (Hopefully) Starbound will also be one, it's not the best idea to classify them as the same game as they are two completely different entities and I believe should remain so. Yes as people mentioned references n stuff will be something nice to add into the game; it should not be something that's overpowering and should be kept to a minimum to keep Starbound it's own game.

Yeah, but this is the Internet. If two things are slightly similar, they're instantly the exact same thing.

    STARBOUND EES TERRARIA 2!!!!
