Closed Starbound Starting then Immediately Stopping

    Hi there,
    Whenever I try starting the Nightly build via Steam, it says it's Running for about 5 seconds, then promptly closes the process. When I try running the program directly, it says that I'm missing the api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll file from my computer. I've tried reinstalling my programs multiple times and updating my Windows through Windows Updater, but to no avail. Is there anything I can do about this issue?

    Yea, I've tried the suggestions in that thread, from deleting all of the Universe, Player, and config files to changing the resolutions of fullscreen and windowed mode within the starbound.config. Nothing seems to work here... the same issue persists.

    I seem to run it fine when I'm on the Stable and Unstable versions. I'm not exactly sure what you mean when you say I'm not running on the Nightly Branch...

    The log you posted was not from Nightly, hence "you're not running on the Nightly branch".

    Hmm, thats extremely odd... I'll try to find the log for the Nightly build. Does it exist in the same folder? I was only able to find that one log file.

    i don't know how to explain but it i relaunch the game a couple of times and eventually the game works.................

    Well, I'm having the exact same problem as the OP.

    If I start it from steam = game not starting (green in-game indicator on steam for ~3 seconds then back to idle); start from "..\win64\starbound.exe" and this appears:

    I've read around about the VC redist, and all my stuff is in order. In fact, I can run the Unstable version fine, it's just the nightly that steadfastly refuses to start.

    I've removed it from steam, wiped the folder, wiped every mention from the registry, re-installed (with nightly enabled), so there's not a single thing remaining to interfere.

    I can't post any log because there is nothing generated by the game. No config, no log, nothing.

    I really do hope this won't carry over into v1.0.

    P.S.: oh, and before anyone suggests installing windows updates or anything else unrelated to the game directly, no thanks. This is the only game I ever had a problem with on my current system, I won't open that can of worms because of it,

    1. Reinstall Visual C++ Redistributable.
    2. Unstable =/= Nightly. They have different requirements due to development progress.
    3. Updates can very well indeed effect a game's playability. Just because your other games work doesn't mean squat if one requires something different that the others don't. It is entirly possible that this issue could have resolved itself if you maintained updates. In fact, this issue is related to update KB2999226.

    Sure I did, in fact I uninstalled and reinstalled the 2015 versions multiple times. The indicated KB is already present as well.

    All prerequisites are met, yet the problem persists. So I ask again, short of re-installing/upgrading my OS (which I will not do), is there anything else I could try?

    Of course, that goes without saying.

    EDIT: Oh, and I should probably also mention I installed KB2919442 and KB2919355, which were also prerequisites for something or another. Still doesn't work.

    EDIT#2: Right, KB2919442 + KB2919355 + vc_redist uninstall-reinstall + restart; apparently fixed it. Weird thing is, it took 8 attempts to re-start the game before it snapped into place. So much effort... at least it looks like the game is shaping up nicely.
