    TIL. neat.
Just out of curiousity, can our ears actually pick up the "loss" that an MP3 has compared to a FLAC? The files I have seem pretty good...I don't notice any "loss."

  3. Depends on the music, quality of the MP3, equipment, etc. Quick Google searches seem to end up with the conclusion that some people start having difficulties distinguishing anything much higher than a 128kbps MP3 file. I haven't really looked into or tested it much myself.

Most people don't have high enough quality sound cards and headphones/speakers to be able to tell the difference. If you do, the difference can be pretty obvious.

Yep, It sounds great. I guess converting the MP3 files to .FLAC wouldn't work

I still think the best piece of music I've heard so far is the one used into the building demo movie. Ironically i was watching Wreck-it Ralph with my girlfriend the other week and the main theme from that reminded me of this track... must be that old skool gaming music vibe going :)

Loving the 'retro' and ambient atmosphere of the soundtrack in general so far. Cant wait for the game release, pretty much told all my gaming friends about this project and we're itching for some multiplayer!

  7. I was taken aback by how serious and moving these tracks were, but I really really like them. I get a rather sad feeling from them though, then again Starbounds plotline is a bit depressing anyways.

Yeah, when I listen I kinda get a lonely and lost vibe from some of them. :'-( But they are stirring and beautiful at the same time. I love 'em.

I'm curious as to whether the music was recorded with live musicians or using some fancy cyborg instruments....

The idea that popped outta my head from this:
So, you're home planet was destroyed in a fiery ball of rock and... Uh... Fire.
    What are going to do?
    Mope?
    Cry?
    Declare all to be lost?

    No.

You're going to travel. You're going to explore the very galaxy.
You will meet other civilizations, spelunk in old ruins of various machinations, and search for the destroyers.
And when you do find the ones who destroyed your planet, you will make them wish they hadn't.

Huh, actually, is this even on-topic?

Whenever I listen to StarBound's soundtrack I try to imagine what kind of biome the music would fit in.
I'm guessing this fits well with deep sea. Pretty awesome indeed. <3

  14. I wish we could afford a real orchestra, but until then, the following software is used to produce all the cues: Logic 9 Pro, EWQL Stormdrum 2, EWQL Symphonic Choirs, EWQL Symphonic Orchestra Platinum, and EWQL Hollywood Strings Diamond.

If you keep creating masterpieces like you did for starbound, it won't take long until that dream is realised. :gooby:

  17. Commander Khalen

To be honest I like the music better the way you've done it. It appears to fit the game well... but more importantly it reminds me of old game music from my SNES RPG days :)

Hymn to the Stars. Oh. My. Goodness. The chills. That ties up rather nicely to "Forest Exploration 1", as well, which is my favorite, right next to this one. Even though they're digital instruments, they sound phenomenal, and on the more orchestral compositions, they do stand up to the challenge of sounding real-like. You're doing a phenomenal job.

Are we going to hear tracks from Radiation or Solatrus anytime soon?
