First off: I have no Modification development experience, neither the funds to get that kind of education. So I'm not going to develop it or take part in it. (And a lot of tutorials out there are not exactly helpful for someone with Aspergers Syndrome like myself...) Second: So ladies and gents, when do we get into the development of a mod that allows & adds robotics? You know: Mining drones Guardian sentries Cyber surveyors Construction Androids. Etc. And things like: Customizable robot models with interchangeable parts that changes the properties and behavior of what its function is. Unique panels, consoles, transmitters and recievers, GUI interfaces that give you a variety of options on how your bots should behave, where they should go to do what and when, If they do these things alone or in an assigned group, Planet GUI map to properly direct them where to go and do what exactly. Variable amount of upgrades for them, and side grades. Etc.
I think we have most of the parts to theoretically allow for things on the first list. There are lua functions that should allow placement and destruction of tiles, though I haven't tested them. Stuff on the second list is more difficult. I don't think we can do much with the GUI at this point beyond cosmetic modifications.
Whoa whoa. You don't need modification experience to begin modding with Starbound - you'll get the experience as you go along, and it certainly isn't something you pay for. If you want to learn to mod, I suggest looking over the information available around here and then just trying things. You'll probably pick it up really fast. That's really the very best way to learn modding with Starbound - just try stuff. Open up \Starbound\assets, open random files and edit values that look important. You'll get the hang of it. Don't worry about breaking anything. Steam can repair any bad edits you make. Anyway, this robotic stuff would be a fairly large project, the way you want it designed. They sound like monsters or npcs with completely custom scripts. Completely doable already, but not a five-minute-job. Tile placement is not possible atm. Next patch. You're right about the GUI - forgot about that. We probably wouldn't be able to make a custom GUI for the robots. We could, however, line up a few custom control panels and have each one activate different behaviour sets in the robot's scripts. That much isn't a problem with what we have now.
What you say holds truth, but for the sake of avoiding saying disturbing things or using foul language... I'm very very VERY stubborn to get things right on the first try. Failures tell me nothing and I'm immediately put off and do suggesting instead. Plus when your mind, whether high or low funct, is extremely finnicky and unwilling to let you even take one step without you having even a slightest id-- Well lets put it like this. (I'm gonna make this up, and let's pretend its a tiny script about how a projectile works. Let's also pretend its functional, you know how one really works but its more of a demonstration how I can't have even the slightest fun in scripting since impatience, stubborness, and a autistic brain as the catalyst make for a very painful mix.) "x>)=Distance, y>)Height, z>)Speed" Now let's see it how I see it: x - Um, okay maybe that's for a number. > - Do they have to put these in? I see no purpose in it. ) - is this suppose to separate something or round up something by a large angle? = - I think this totals... Distance - I think I either put them in like coordinates on a GPS? -Immediately turned off, leaves, Mind says don't even want me to try to learn what they do until I just know what to do- Anyway, would someone like to get started on Robotics development? Or would everyone like to wait? Anyway, w
