Will be listening to this all day. And maybe add it to my SAMP server to my plugin that transfers music from online stations.

Ok, so I registered here just to be able to post in this topic!

    I got some questions:

What quality exactly are you looking to stream in?
How many listeners/slots will your server be able, or allowed to, hold?
Why do you demand a surround sound card? (PS: Doesn't all somewhat recent sound cards have that today?)
How many are you "running the station", and how old are you?
You demand stable internet connection, what you should be demanding is a minimum upload capability, which should be set depending on the quality you aim to stream at. (Ok this was not a question, but more like constructive feedback)
Why do you demand a USB headset? (Specially when you also demand a separate sound card)
What is your previous experience in running a web radio station?

I would like these questions answered, as I found this thread and got very interested in your project. All community projects are nice, but there will always be those that are great in theory but that never really work as well when launched. I am hopeful that you succeed in your project, and that you are successful in doing so. I can also tell you, that you will most likely never ever make any money of from it, especially when it is a fan made radio for a specific game like this.

PS: Do you have any kind of launch-date decided yet?

The only reason i could think of for this is that a surround card naturally has multiple channels, which means that you can use it to prelisten on your headphones, but that honestly does not work very well unless you have a soundcard designed to do this.

I'm also still waiting for any kind of reply to the cv i sent to the OP, i think he's just very busy.

So what kind of music would be playing on this station? I was thinking that this might be an ambient-related station, since that's kind of the vibe that Starbound gives off. It sounds really interesting, though!

    Hello there,

I never really noticed this post until probably 10 minutes ago (sad that I am an Active Member -.-") but this suggestion sounds really cool.

Well I don't really have much experience in the DJ/Radio business but I am always willing to learn, much like what "Starheaven07" said:
So I will send an application through and hope for the best :D

    Thanks,
    Nathan

Looking at the lack of response on my post from the thread starter, this looks to be another one of those "Hey this is a great idea!!!" that just never comes to fruition!

It is however a very nice idea, something that could be produced into something real probably. Most likely depending on how much the community would like to support such a project. Cause running a webradio station is nothing close to free, and it is extremely rare that it makes any profit at all, specially because making a profit makes the radio actually cost more to run. I have done it, and I have been there to see projects both fail and succeed. I have worked with web radio for about 8 years now, and I got another project on its way. This thread got me curious, as to why I posted some questions. Which sadly has gone by unanswered...

So again, I dont think the guy behind this thread got very far with the project, unless he is working on it without replying to this thread :p

This is very sad. If anyone wants to pick this up, i have already send an aplication, i'm a very capable DJ for trance and ambient space music, i would absolutely work for this. For free or for tips.

If someone does, dont start saying that you aim to sell adds and make money on it. Do it as a none-profit community project. Those usually gets the most love and work out the best. Have donations as an option for income to cover any expenses for licensing and servers.

If anyone however have the desire to make some sort of web-production aimed towards this game, you could contact me and brainstorm with me some, and perhaps it could be part of what Im doing in a near future. Im keeping my eye on this game and community anyway so some interesting things might happen here even if its not a dedicated radio station ;)

I would like these answered too before I trouble you with some CV.

USB Headset will never happen for me and I am confused as to why you would ask for that and then state high demands. I use an AKG HD242 Studio headset with a standalone Peevey mic (because I like to talk) for the best quality you are likely to hear on a Internet station. Also whilst I do have a HD card you don't need one to broadcast, only to listen.

Doing Internet Radio can take up quite a lot of personal time for the broadcaster if they do it right so my concerns are more about what experience you have too and what quality you are aiming at providing as an output. Anything less than 128 is quite nasty but anything over 256 tends to be pointless for most listeners who will not demand brilliant sound. Do you intend broadcasting in 5.1? Do you have the bandwidth required for this? Also what is your maximum listener quota?

I am up for offering my 'CV' for this as its been a while since I did anything radio based (Eve Radio was the last in any big way and that was years ago before it turned to crud) and TBH I quite miss it, but I think all of those interested need to know more about what you bring to the table too :)

On an extra note as it seems the OP may have just realised it wasn't as easy as he had hoped...

If anyone is thinking of doing this, feel free to talk to me. I have a lot of experience in running and broadcasting for both local and online radio (albeit a while ago now) and would be happy to either offer advice and/or jump in and start something of this ilk with people who know enough to realise this will likely never make money, probably be subject to fees unless its done illegally (like 99% of them) and just wish to do something for a possibly cool community and game.

AKA, my ego needs to be heard again! :D

You know, since we seem to have some people interested in this, how about we make this a pure community project ? Getting a server and financing it cost around 50-90 Dollar per month, i'm sure that much could be financed by the community. What troubles me are the license fees. If we keep it around 100-200 listeners, we might be able to make a good deal there, though, depending on where the server is located.

Here's an example with included fees from live365.com:

    Edit:

What confuses me a bit is this additional list for "Personal Broadcasting" which also covers all royalities aparently:
