If this was a jab at me, you failed horribly. That was quite possibly the worst analogy someone could use.

    Being nice = Good PR.
I'm not refuting that not updating fans doesn't impact their PR. It's bad PR. Not denying that at all. Updating fans is what a responsible company does. However, it doesn't make it an obligation.
If you want good PR, you keep your fans updated. Good PR is essential for an indie dev, since they don't have much going for them. But it doesn't change the fact that they can not update if they so choose.
It's their CHOICE to update or not.

No offense but, do you know what essentially means? It means basic, fundamental, intrinsic. Nowhere have I said that they have to. Quote me on the part where I say they have no choice, you can't because I didn't say that.

Reading goes a long way. Not to be insulting or anything. I'm just I'm trying to explain that fundamentally, you want to update your fans if you are to succeed and it's frustrating having someone think I meant it legally or "have to".

    ob·li·gate
    verb
past tense: obligated; past participle: obligated
    ˈäbliˌgāt/
    1. bind or compel (someone), esp. legally or morally.
    2. commit (assets) as security.
Maybe this will help you? Because you did say "they have to" in one word. "Obligated".
And do you see that? "Bind or compel (someone), especially LEGALLY or morally."

So yes, reading DOES go a long way.

Whoa look at that! It says OR morally!

Reading really does go a long way! Do you see that? If the only way you can argue is trying to pick apart a word that has multiple meanings (and it's quite obvious which one I'm using) I have no interest in discussing this with you. If you know that you're going to respond with yet another "no you meant it this way".

Still doesn't mean they're BOUND or COMPELLED. It still means "HAVE TO", which they DO NOT, which was my initial argument IN THE FIRST PLACE!
I did say that updates were needed for good PR. Good PR shows a responsible company. They do not HAVE TO have good PR. It is a CHOICE.

I feel the need to reply one more time

Your initial argument is picking at one word. Give it a break already, I literally stated they have to if they want to succeed, not that they legally have to. I already fucking stated that they don't have to so stop freaking saying that I meant they absolutely have to.

    Use common sense, please.

I'm not replying anymore to this "debate" on what I meant. If you want to focus on one word and ignore the point of my argument you shouldn't post at all. Your whole argument is you trying to say that I meant they have to legally which I said they have to do morally and to be succesful.

You're literally the only one on the forums who argues with the person you essentially agreed with a couple replies back on the meaning of one word.

I'm sorry. I went overboard. Honestly, I was having fun going back and forth. I didn't mean to make you upset.

That's fine, just go back and read what the person in question is saying multiple times in a argument instead of jumping to conclusions. Also don't use another meaning for a word when the poster has made clear which variation they are using.

Anyways, I need time to cool off. I don't get riled up unless I find something so nonsensical that it's irritating.

The two of you are just going in a loop. You are saying that they're obligated when what you mean is that they simply should. Obligation to customers sounds like a legal thing to me. More importantly, we are getting updates and CF are doing everything they should be doing.

Simply should could still be misinterpreted or viewed as selfish (no idea why) depending on the person.

As I said before, words can have multiple meanings. Obligation can be used in a legal sense and a moral sense.

Absolutely, we get to be a bit selfish. When you buy a game that looks awesome you get your hopes up and you want to get as much information as possible from the developers. I'm not entirely sure on the details but I take it Starbound needed some help to take off, so it was made public very early in development. When you make people hype that long before release posting updates now and then is a good way to go. So far I'm pleased with how much we have been given and how often.

I feel the same way, the trend among some members is that actually wanting updates for a product that you backed is selfish though. And honestly, I deal with enough white knights already.

Ha. Good to see the CF forums are still full of strife and conflict over the smallest of things and people polarizing everything.

On topic, thanks for the info @Tiy glad to see you've taken community feedback on centralizing things a bit more to keep folks in the loop. Also I can't imagine many of the people who questioned the move have ever tried working long distance across time zones. Even with a two person team it's strenuous.

thanks for the update nice to get some "out of the horses mouth" info and i have to say personally i dont mind either big updates further apart or small regular i just enjoy the game your making so far and hope to keep enjoying it into the future

    remember
"you can please SOME of the people All of the time",

    or

"ALL of the people SOME of the time"

    NEVER

"ALL of the people ALL of the time"

    hope everyone enjoyed easter

I think that's where I stand tbh. Too many people yelling at devs about this and that, and I'm like "Do you even understand what running a business or coding an entire game entails? Because I sure as hell don't."

I'm like, why are you yelling at them? What are you gaining? They're passionate about the game as much as you are? Cut them some slack. Things could be worse.

And one of the few times I post online, I start an argument about something stupid like "You're not using {word} correctly! Rabble rabble rabble!"

It's not unreasonable to want updates for something you paid for though.
