To anyone wondering when the beta will be released in their time zone: http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?msg=Starbound Beta Release&iso=20131204T18 This is based off the usual release time on Steam which is 6 pm UTC. Please feel free to copy this link for anyone wondering about their time zone - it should default to the zone their computer is set to.
No idea, and honestly not interested, as long as I get my own key on the 4th without any delays. The only one I know is TB, who announced over a year ago that he'll be doing the Jesse is bad at playing stuff in Starbound as soon as it's playable.
Okay. Green. But seriously, I saw what you meant in your comments. It might have been better if the LPs had been allowed to only do an intro/gameplay video for their fans. On the flipside, I also understand why Chucklefish made the choice they did. Let's say you're an average person, not too interested in video games in general, butnot completely ignorant about them either. If I say "Nintendo" ,or, "Sony" , You know who I'm talking about, right? If I say "That Indie game developer, Chucklefish" You might Not know who I'm talking about. Granted, Nintendo and Sony do console games, but the idea is the same: getting their name out there so more people are aware of "Chucklefish: Creators of Starbound" Something like that. One last thing too. They are just human, and if you try to please Everyone, you usually fail. Hope That was relevant
A few guestimates: Unknown youtuber's let's play = about 62 views. Top tier established youtuber's let's play = 10's of thousands of views. And you guys are ragging on Chucklefish for this decision? You all know it's about marketing buzz and these top tier guys have personality and an audience, and that's why people watch them. No one's going to watch an unknown 10 year old kid playing a game like Starbound. Sad fact, but true. Why did anyone watch Minecraft videos? Not to learn how to play, that's for sure, but because of the yogs. Otherwise, you're playing the damn game yourselves. Besides the advertisement value, who even needs to see Starbound 'let's played' anyway? Just play it yourself.
Try this: http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?msg=Starbound Beta Release&iso=20131204T18 I might be mistaken, but the first phase of beta is exclusive to Steam, isn't it? That way it's easier to distribute the frequent patches that will be necessary.
It's free promotion. Even AAA companies do it, honestly not sure why people expect Chucklefish would do any different. Despite how well Chucklefish responds to their followers, at the end of the day, they ARE a company. They ARE advertising a product they're trying to sell. ...Granted I've never been 100% thrilled with the idea of giving it to famous YouTubers myself, but I do get why they do it- some people need to see a blind play for a few and a little commentary and feedback can do wonders to get peoples' attention. Let alone someone popular like TotalBiscuit will undoubtedly get some more attention for the game. I'm a bit neutral on the practice myself, don't care as much about it as I do the stupid pre-order tier rewards. However, I don't think "desperate" is even close to accurate. If you want to see desperation, look at The Ship. It's actually a pretty good game, but nobody's heard of it to the point that they give out two free copies to anyone that buys it so they can give it to friends. THAT is desperate. Getting promotion from YouTubers... ehh, not really.
What'd they do? I didn't watch the Russian videos, because, well, I don't understand the language. Also, what does your caption mean?
If Chucklefish is in Europe, well some of them, doesn't that mean that starbound beta will be released late Dec 3rd?
Tiy asked for people with big audiences. That sounded a lot like "small-timers and people planning to start need not apply." (Source)
