Of course giving an early access copy of Starbound to new youtubers would be an awful idea--it doesn't take much to know that. The general displeasure stems from, again, their choice of youtubers.
Valid points, from a marketing standpoint. But place yourself in the shoes of a potential buyer--you're watching this video about a game called Starbound. You've never heard of the game, and you immediately assume that the video is going to tell you about the game, as well as display some gameplay to further entice you. Imagine your disappointment when you realize that you've learned close to nothing about the game, aside from how to faff about and not get anything accomplished. From a marketing standpoint, it's genius. But that's about as far as they got.
DAMN! i was wishing we could have got it at like midnight or something haha im shattered as! stupid UTC times!
I try to stay away from most LPers, to be honest. But someone by the name of Direwolf could've done it pretty well, I imagine. I enjoyed his Minecraft series, because it was all about progress and building bigger and better. His series involved mods, of course, but they were so informative that I kept watching and watching. Anyone else has either fallen out my favor, or was never there to begin with.
The news from the next year: "Most underestimated game of the year is Starbound, because of lame letsplays showed first on youtube".
Yeah I see this more of a problem then TB, or anyone else messing around with the build a day early. But I guess we'll see.
Another game developer only supporting the youtube fat cats. I understand you need exposure but you might wanna throw a few struggling youtubers in there for the mix next time. :,(
As far as I know, Tiy asked in twitter for people who like to make LPs or streams about Starbound. If only these youtubers (with some followers) responded, you can't blame Chucklefish. But enough of this discussion. We can not know yet how good or bad this marketing will be and speculations don't make Starbound a better or worse game (as unfunny youtubers won't make Starbound less fun to play). Let's all just wait for the beta and finally the release and then we will see how good everything went for Chucklefish and Starbound.
And he also said in the Leth stream that he only got 15 keys from Steam, and those were gone very fast.
Cant waaaaaaait !! It looks amazing from everything i've seen so far !! But i hope the Glitch are called the Glitch and not robots on the release :O
Are those youtubers who asked for an earlier key really interested in Starbound or was it hundreds of their fans bugging them with "GO GRAB AN EARLIER KEY AND MAKE A LETSPLAY I LOVE YOU LET ME HAVE YOUR CHILDREN" that's the question.
YES! Wed 4th 10am PST(California Time if you're wondering. you can check out -wwp.greenwichmeantime.com- to see the time difference ) And It's not so much the developers as Steam I would think? Hope that helps!
