Are you guys really that jealous of some streamers getting the game two days before you? Did you know, in some European countries they celebrate Christmas on 24th and with time-zones and everything they get their gifts nearly one and a half days before Americans. Will you complain about this, too? May I remind you that Chucklefish is not some AAA-company with sums of money just for advertisement, they depend on buzz marketing. Streamers with large amounts of followers are perfect for advertising small indie games. And when they finished a few videos they will go stream other games. Small streamers with less followers will get their chance right then. Apart from that: You can still pre-order the game, so if someone never heard of Starbound before and watches one of the streams or Let's-Plays they still have the chance to get the game early. Because some of us had pre-ordered the game a few months ago doesn't mean we are some kind of exclusive club. We want to play this game, others may want to. Let's just give everyone the chance to play the game tomorrow (or in two days, depending on your time-zone).
I'm not usually into kinky stuff...but consider myself tortured! Roll on tomorrow. Job hunting can wait.
I'm not jealous about the fact that people got it before me--I'm mature enough to wait two more days. I'm disappointed, in the fact that they're desperately grabbing at any opportunity that they get to spread their game. And they're doing so by flinging it at the generic, run of the mill smart guy/dumbass duo, or the awkward solo commentator who fakes their reactions every few seconds to appease to their audience of teenagers. I'm not trying to shit all over your favorite 'commentator/LPer' by the way, but I'm just putting my opinion out there. If they just handed the game out to about three people who knew what they were doing, and actually play the game instead of faffing about and enforcing the 'lol im so whacky " image, I wouldn't be complaining at all. Hell, I may be watching a couple videos right now, but I'm not.... And that's because all of these Starbound LPs suck. Plain and simple.
Everyone is so riled about the early previews. I'm still more concerned of other technicalities. Yes, the release is on the 4th, whichever timezone, whatever time. But that won't keep the mailing system to mess up and us not getting the keys until much-much later. And meanwhile people who click buy on the early access page will have it in a heartbeat. That would make me angrier then some people getting to play it a day early.
[NUTSHELL] [/NUTSHELL] Thank you, someone had to say it. It's like watching a rich kid flaunt his shiny new toy in front of the other kids at school. I have to watch these with the sound off.
I saw somewhere that someone of devs said that anyone still could pre-order after beta is released. But large streamers now got the first pages in a search results, so small streamers small chances to get an audience were decreased even more. Am I wrong?
Angly brings up another point. They've pretty much destroyed their potential right out the gate, by allowing thirty let's plays from the usual schmuck to crowd the first few pages of the Starbound search result on youtube. I'd much rather watch a lets play that details the shaky beginnings of a player who knows what they want to do, and will go through trial and error to achieve that goal. I'd rather watch a video detailing the process of someone's base, from laying down the first block, to putting up the final door. I'd rather watch a series--without commentary--that shows four players embarking on their own galatic adventure. I don't want to watch some asshole with a high subscriber count jack about in a game that I've been excited for. I don't want to watch some asshole barely explore the game's mechanics. I want to watch someone poke and prod at the game, explore it, and find out just how much care has went into it so far. But everyone has different opinions. Maybe you like watching garbage--I won't judge you for it.
Speculation suggests that it will come out on December 4th, sometime in the morning at Pacific Standard Time. Then again, we've been wrong before.
Handing the game early to some bigger names gets the games name out there further I don't see why people consider this a bad thing. Theres no sense in giving it to new youtubers as they get next to no views ergo less coverage. Big youtubers get more money into chucklefish and bring more people onboard this experience. Its a Plus to everyone. More players= more servers, mods and in general more Starbound! And the more money Chucklefish get the more potential content... ...now GIME MAH BEHTAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!1!!!!!!!!!1111!1!!!!!!!!!OnE!!!!!!!!!!!!!11!11!!!!1Eleven!!1!11!!!!!!
I for my part don't watch Let's Plays at all, because I tend to play games on my own. But I can relate to the marketing process Chucklefish is trying. And I don't think there is anything in this world absolutely everyone enjoys, so if you don't like LPs like the ones about Starbound, than just don't watch them. Some people may like them and if that gets them to buy Starbound its valid marketing. I mean: Advertising targets people who don't own the product. It doesn't need to be liked by people who already bought it.
Neat, finally some Jesse Cox / Totalbiscuit Starbound fun. I watched the everloving beep out of their terraria series. Awesome!
I really hope they are able to send out 100 000 or so keys smoothly.. I'm worried that not everyone will be playing at the same time because of it.
