It seems people aren't aware that these kinds of gaming functions tend to slap the word 'exclusive' on to everything. For all we know it may literally be a look into some features that aren't in the beta.

And don´t forget other meaningless quotes like "The world will be a better place when it happens" or "Everybody can be rich" or "All was better in the past" or "Everybody can live like ourself if they just work harder" and my personal favor "No, i dont have a solution, but i admire the problem"

Sorry but, we will get it when it´s ready....? And i will be rich when i get hungry... you see how mutch it makes sense? A game can´t be ready. It´s a game, a software devoloped and created by people who decide when they will throw it on the marked or to put it in a recycle bin. So please stop with "When it´s done" or "When it´s ready" Quotes like that make no sense at all!

  3. But...a game CAN be ready? It's ready when it's finished, or when existing features are polished up enough for the game to be bought/played.

Wow, man, you really went off on a tangent there didn't you. The fact is, there will come a time when the developers feel that the game is READY to enter the public beta phase, it's not some random unlikely event that's like wishing the world is a better place. This is a damn game, I don't understand why people are getting so upset and crazy about it, ITS A GAME, NOT LIFE OR DEATH, If it was revealed tomorrow that it would never come out, yes I'd be upset, but i'd get on with my life, which is what I'm doing whilst I PATIENTLY wait on a beta.

Please, for the love of god, can we stop beating this dead horse, it's been gone over time and time, and time AND TIME AGAIN so I'll say it one last time on here, then i'm just letting the mods deal with it from now on:

WHEN THE DEVELOPERS FEEL THAT THE GAME IS POLISHED ENOUGH AND READY TO ENTER A PUBLIC BETA FOR THOSE WHO PRE-ORDERED, THEY WILL RELEASE IT. NO SOONER, NO LATER. SPECULATION THAT THEY ARE HOLDING BACK A RELEASE UNTIL AFTER INSOMNIA HAS BEEN SQUASHED. IF THE BETA IS AVAILABLE BEFORE INSOMNIA, WE WILL GET IT, THAT IS THE FINAL WORD FROM TIY. SO PLEASE, FOR THE LOVE OF EVERYTHING THAT'S SANE IN THE WORLD, GIVE THIS TOPIC A REST.

Your lack of grammatical correctness makes no sense either. But seriously. A game can't be ready? I assure you, games can be ready, or very, very un-ready.

Maybe you have some preconception that a piece of software is something like play-doh, which a software developer pokes and prods until it resembles a game. And the devs at Chucklefish are particularly poke-y and prod-dy types, who like to poke and prod above and beyond what is considered normal.

I hate to burst that bubble, but game development isn't childs-play. It usually isn't very fun, either, at least not in the sense of playing-a-game sort of fun. Everything has to be created from scratch. Programming code doesn't come out of thin air. Art assets don't make themselves. Every single thing you see in a game is hand-crafted by someone, be it an effect, sound, graphic, animation, interaction etc.

Do you know what happens when a game developer releases a game before it is ready? The War Z is a very strong example of what happens when developers bend to pressure from 'fans', and do something unwise like releasing a game before its done. Sure enough when the game was released while still lacking many advertised features and being buggy as hell due to being feature incomplete, it received a terrible backlash, got removed from Steam, and their servers got badly hacked.
Add the developer's inexperience in handling crises, and you get them making offensive statements and blaming their customers for their problems.

It has already been stated many times that BETA will only be released after the game is FEATURE COMPLETE. That means the vehicles, quest system, humanoid NPCs, server stuff, dungeon protection, user interface, and everything else that remains to be implemented needs to be working in-game without any major game-breaking bugs.

Dude, really, i dont care. A game can´t be ready when it´s ready, it makes no sense at all! Live with it, it´s a fact! xD That "It´s ready when it´s ready" isn´t a argument, it´s a empty phrase that has no meaning at all.

But if you want to bring it to the pressure the devs have, here are some thoughts about it:

Well, next time i would suggest not to make a pre-order campaign if a devoloper don´t want to get pressure. I mean, what do you think happens when you open a game for pre-order, honestly. Of course people will keep asking.
To say people "It´s ready when it´s ready" makes no difference at all. It´s just a "Gosh you guy´s are really annoying i just tell you a empty phrase and be happy about it." Thats my opinion. If you don´t like it, fine! I can live with it. And i will just let it behind me and speak out my mind again at the next day.

And The War-Z was a scam, not a devoloper issue...

The game will be ready when the company decides that the game can be presented to the public. Thats a statement.

    ....
Are you uh... trying to find a way to say this without being mean...

The game will be ready when it's ready MAKES PERFECT SENSE. It means that when the game is ready, it's ready. That's all it means, and it's a simple sentence, certainly something anyone should be able to understand.

The game will be ready when it's ready= The game will be ready when the company decides that the game can be presented to the public.

Same thing. Same exact thing. The only difference is the second one has more detail, but in the end, same thing.

Just be patient, because you can't force beta. Just wait, and you'll get it. Calm down man.

Okay, to say it clear. At the moment, i dont rush for a beta start. I play other games like Project Zomboid or Planet Explorers. I dont have a urge for a rush.
But i really don´t like it to see when people that try to discuss are beaten upon with the same statement, over and over again. It´s ready when it´s ready is nonsense. It´s ready when the company say "It´s ready" that is true. I really can´t hear the ready/ready statement anymore. Thats all :p It´s like "soon". Who ever brought "soon" first up in the game devolopment industry should be punished. But that´s my personal opinion. :p

It's ready when it's ready isn't nonsense. That's just the truth of reality. You can have the opinion that it doesn't make any sense, but really, it does make sense, that's just the truth of the whole thing. The game is ready when it's ready, end of story. That's all there is to it. They don't want to tell people any other details anyway because this game has been repeatedly pushed back. That's why everyone gets 'it's ready when it's ready,' but even if they could say a possible release date, and they didn't, it's ready when it's ready still applies.

Not to push up an old topic, but I do not believe thats true. Seeing as it will negate the whole point of "exclusive preview". Thats my 2 cents.

What your saying sounds like "a game can't be perfect" rather than "a game can't be ready".
Or I'm just confused as heck.

No game can be perfect in terms of bugs etc. But most of the time, companies will set a goal to reach before a game is considered release-ready. One of those should be a working UI, which as has been stated many times is still being worked on.

Right now, many features that are still considered core basic features are still being worked on. Although there does seem to be some feature-creep with the "Music system" imo.

The best idea of Chucklefish's vision for the release-ready game is the roadmap. And by the looks of it, we're a long way off. I won't guess any real dates because even minor features can throw up huge delays when being implemented.

I think what he's trying to say is that 'ready' is not a 'real' thing in this example... real as in tangible. It's not something you can mathematically calculate, in this case.

My freezer pizza is ready after 10 minutes in the oven.
Starbound is 'ready' when Chucklefish says it is.

One of these statements is a fact (or at least directions on the box)

  19. Pyrii

    Pyrii Existential Complex

Fraid not, it seems more like you have. I was just stating that what constitutes "Ready" depends on what Chucklefish see as "Ready". THere's no way any game can be "Perfect". Just more and more polished.

Believe it or not, but it's what they said. Exclusive Preview is a term thrown around a lot these days for events like this, it's meaningless. I believe it anyway, I don't really care whether or not anyone else does. :)
