Starbound or Terraria?

So, I wandered in the Steam store and saw this game. It seemed REALLY promising for an early access game, which is good. But I also wanted to buy Terraria. Now I have some trouble deciding.

Terraria has A LOT of content and basically more things to do currently. But Starbound is still in early access only, so it has a lot of potential content, it is also bigger on community modding too.
So I'm not sure which to buy. Please give your opinion, much obliged (like a sir)

    Penguin mechs ;)

If you're looking for something to play right now, I'd say Terraria. Starbound as it stands is enjoyable and shaping up well, but by the time you've finished Terraria then Starbound would have seen more updates, additions and polish.

Actually, Starbound got already plenty of content imo. I would buy both - buy Starbound now and Terraria when its on sale, because you can get it for 5 bucks or less. Its not worth to wait for a starbound sale, since it only drops down by a few $. However, I wouldn't recommend to play both games on public server so you should have a few friends on your hand for both games.

However, like you said Starbound isn't finished yet and theres still a lot of stuff missing or WIP but I already had a lot more of fun with Starbound than I ever had with Terraria.

Terraria: Larger community, harder boss fights, big online servers and $5 cheaper than SB.
Starbound: More content (although it is randomised), better looking sprites, space ships, different planets and (IMO) better wiring system.
    Hope this helped!

To be honest, I enjoy StarBound far more than Terraria. You have better control over the destructive side of the building aspect. Afraid I didn't play the latter enough to discover much else. I was simply put-off by it early on and went back to StarBound. (As I played SB before my husband picked up Terraria.) A lot of people enjoy Terraria, so there is something going on with it.

StarBound, it is still developing and could drastically change again before it is released. (It has gone through one or two major changes already.)
Terraria, is a finished game and is not going to suddenly change how it's mechanics etc work.

    Both have good communities.
Both cater to the pixel lover's desire for exploration and building.

Cannot say much else because I, again, did not play enough of Terraria to compare it to other features currently in StarBound.

Terraria: Larger community, much, MUCH better bosses, unique items and enemies, better value for price.
Starbound: Better building (both easier and more pleasing), Better story, wiring, arguably exploration and customization, also very easy to mod.

  9. I would suggest picking them both up at some point. Terraria is thoroughly enjoyable and will take you a long time to finish if you're a completionist (some of the high-end stuff is very difficult to get).

At this point? Definitely Terraria, since it's a finished game.

Terraria is epic, that much is clear especially since the 1.3 update...Im a little newer to starbound which IMO still had some work to do but is fun...I've def. enjoyed Terraria a lot more so far but Starbounds future looks promising...Both fun, get both eventually for sure

I'd also go for Terraria, since.. Yeah, mostly everything has already been discussed. It has more fantasy-like theme while Starbound is scifi, yet both games are kind of mixtures of scifi AND fantasy.

But, if you have the money, then...

I tried Terraria. Didn't like it. Starbound by itself is fine, but having both would give you more options.

Of course Terraria! tons of content, and you see whenever you play something new. According to streamcharts Terraria is one of the most played things currently 30k players peak over 150k. But there is a even better news soon they'll release Terraria 2 or at least the trailer. Can't wait for that.

    Honestly? Starbound.

Even though it has a long way to go as a game, I found Terraria to be clunky, boring, and very vanilla. There isn't so much exploring to do, and it doesn't feel as large and full of life.

I've played a fair bit of both, so I think I have a basis for my opinion. BUT its just an opinion. If you like Terraria more, more power to ya.

Every game can be boring, its your imagination holding you back, i have had endless hours of fun in terraria, single player and coop.
i'm not saying starbound is bad, on the contrary, starbound is great, but its still in Early Access,

    Honestly? Terraria (for now)...

Starbound - promises a ton, delivers a lot already, but it's rough.

Terraria - Polished, finished, tons of content, even more on the way.

I'd go with Terraria right now. The development on SB is super slow, who knows when it'll reach 1.0. I haven't been following development closely but I get the feeling that it's gone through development hell, and it irks me that fluff has taken priority over the performance issues many players are having.

I'll choose terraria. As many people mentioned, the game is already finished. Now that I finished everything in vanilla terraria, I'm already playing it with mods. I add mods in my game when the I completed the game. Makes more sense to me.
