    Hello Starbound-Community!

    I was just reading this:
    http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2012/12/interview_nintendo_of_americas_dan_adelman

and thought: Did chucklefish think about releasing Starbound on WiiU?

What are your thoughts? I think it would be a perfect fit.

I know Starbound isn't released on PC yet but Chuckelfish announced that they are working on an OUYA version which I think is a nice idea because I like the OUYA concept but the thing that really stood out to me from the interview that I linked above was that most developers don't even consider contacting Nintendo (anymore). I think it's because of the seriously broken and downright bad Wii Online-Shop and all the fuzz they had about really good indie-games being rejected by Nintendo for whatever stupid reasons they had. It seems that they changed their approach for indie-developers with the WiiU and 3DS.

I will buy Starbound on the PC in at least one four-pack (if they realese it that way) but I would love to see it on the Wii U because I always wished there would be something like Starbound for the NDS. Anyone here played Locke's Quest? Lovely lovely game.

Additionaly with a Starbound realse on Wii U I could play it with my niece and nephew who are growing up in a world where WASD + mouse controls aren't the standard control scheme anymore. It's not intuitive, not at all and I really think a game like Starbound could only gain from a Wii U version.

Seeing as Starbound is a game that requires cursor placement, I'd say no. I'd have to be more familiar with the WiiU tablet, but every instance I've seen of a cursor-placement mechanic implemented with analog joysticks or a touchpad has been terribly imprecise, tedious, slow or impractical for one reason or another. I'm not even sure how I feel about Starbound on the Ouya, tbh. I like the console itself, just not sure Starbound will adapt nicely to it's control scheme. I'd say a touchpad would have a better chance of successful porting of the controls, but I've yet to see it done well.

Whaaaaaaaaaaaat? dude it's not even on pc yet and you're already thinking about the wii U?

The game can be run almost on every computer, the precision of a mouse is better than the joysticks, i don't see no need for any console ports.

  6. Let it actually be released for the PC before any ports are even made. Even if the Wii U's control scheme is perfect for it, the initial PC release should be top priority.

The game isn't released yet. Also, the game seems suited a lot better for the PC. If they're going to come out with a WiiU version, I'd like to see it when starbound is fully updated.

To be honest, I think the controls would work wonderfully on the wiiU, but I don't know whether it's the best fit overall.

I would love it if they release it on the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360.

    Sure why not.

Terraria is already coming to consoles. Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 no less.

(disregard the angry comments, I don't even like posting a Destructoid article)

The only trouble I see is the word "port". The game itself needs to be engineered specifically the platform it is designed for. When we start getting into "ports" the quality of the game usually falters. Whether it be bad menu navigation all the way up to just not fixing the tooltips that are presented to you. (I'm looking at you Far Cry 3 and Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition)

Id vote pc exclusive but the team won an ouya and it would be a shame to waste it .id be in favor of an ouya port how ever i think pc needs to be done. things to considerthe team isnt made of money ports are expensive and while starbound console sounds good it will always be better on pc easier to patch new content in plus mods which the team plans to allow because to release on console theres all kijds of licensing fees nintendo may not be a giant rip off artist like microsoft in the licensing department but right now its money they dont have ouya is the best bet console wise due to it being open in terms of licesincing

Terraria is getting a console port. I don't see controls being a problem here for Starbound. Hell, the menu and inventory would work great on the touchscreen. For people only wanting this game on PC, I'm sorry to break it to you, but that is not gonna increase revenue for the devs. Releasing on more platforms means more money in the wallet, and so more updates and future games.

Well the problem with that is that the console manufacturers tend to charge exorbitant amounts of money to release updates for games, and Starbound is going to have a lot of updates. The cost is one of the big issues that drives indie devs towards PC in the first place. Now the Ouya won't have this problem, but it also won't have the big touchscreen like the Wii U... I'm sure Chucklefish will do a careful consideration of the costs involved before committing to any console ports.

Also just because Terraria is getting a console version doesn't mean the controls will be good. In fact they're pretty much guaranteed to be bad since the game relies on a cursor, and cursors NEVER control well with a joystick.

I like the Wii U it's pretty fun and easy to hold so I think it would be a reasonable thing to do.

PC release should be top priority, but I don't see any harm in a WiiU launch, and the last time I checked, there's no fee to update the game, unlike other consoles I shall not mention, even Trine 2 is on the WiiU, with exclusive content (If I recall correctly (Research? I don't know what that is))

I wouldn't really care, since modding is gonna be a big thing so someone could just mod in something for the PC if they added extra things to the Wii U version.

Trine2 is on WiiU with exclusive features and top notch touchpad implementation. That's the biggest reason I would be excited to see it on the WiiU, it would be a lot of fun to build stuff with the touchpad.

@Almost Everyone: I know it isn't released on PC yet. So what? the chances will be higher if starbound turns out to be
succesful, im certain that all the kind folks at
chucklefish will want as many people as possible to experience
    the game.
