Agreed, exclusive content is very annoying unless there is a reason. If something had to be change like the Rose had to become the Cyan flower in Minecraft pocket due to some weird issue with rendering the rose that would be fine but adding features to one version and not the other(s) when there is no real reason for it just serves to annoy people.

I think if theyre going to release it on consoles, they should release it on all consoles. But microsoft doesn't allow self publishing with the xbox one. Or did they change that.

I think they changed that. If not - let's grab our torches and burn the witches.

I will be getting it only for my pc, I am not against porting of the game to console as long as the pc version patches are the ones the take president over console patches. As always with games like this pc is the way to go I doubt console versions will have mod support.

Yup, I am fine with it. As long as the consoles don't get exclusive content.

If Chucklefish puts it on PS4 they have to be committed to keeping both versions updated, and I don't think its worth the effort.
The only reason Terraria did ok was console version exclusives.. If Chucklefish did that, it would be very disappointing.

If they somehow managed to make it more playable than the console release of Terraria, sure.
That said, I'd still prefer they release the PC version first.

As long as they don't pull a Terraria and be like

"HERE'S TONS OF COOL FEATURES CONSOLE ONLY! PC USERS SUCKS TO BE YOU"

I don't know why anyone would ever pick a crappy console over a PC anyway so I don't care as long as it doesn't affect me and the devs don't bull shit the PC players.

Funny thing is most people ended up hating the console exclusives (a poll on terraria forums had a majority vote NO to porting them to the PC as they were "Another eye boss and a bunch of crappy reskins and recolors"). But at first everyone was pretty ticked since it looked like a bunch of updated content and still was like a huge middle finger to the PC version with the crap timing.

I really hope that it comes out on PC soon. I don't mind it coming on consoles, but I'm more interested in a PC release. After PC release, they can do whatever they want.

Having the game to play would just please me a lot, since I already paid for it, but I digress.
Another month or two and we'll have our beta and that'll be awesome. I can't wait to check out the game. Even if it is bad, I will be happy to know it's going somewhere.
To finally get to explore planets, kill crazy mutant enemies, collect vegetables, etc. That would be awesome.
Everyone is pretty excited about both a console and PC release, but as long as it's post-release, I don't mind at all.

Customers will eagerly buy Starbound on the consoles, but it remains to be seen how distribution will work on PS4. I hear PS4 is giving out dev kits like "candy" though.
Only I don't know if Tiy and crew have any experience with consoles. Doesn't hurt to try? And I hear it is pretty easy to work with. Plus, all that ram!
Not sure about the vita, though. The vita is a fancy paperweight in my opinion. I think a handheld Starbound could be cool, but what about multiplayer, etc? Servers? SB will shine with MP.
Should it come to the vita, I'd like to know more about that. The multiplayer is a make or break for me. Games like SB, Terraria, Minecraft, etc are boring in Single Player, but not all feel this way.
Other than the the vita; however, there are no other handheld devices that can run the game. I don't know how well the vita is, having never owned one, but I know people would love to have more games.
Luckily it seems Chucklefish isn't afraid of the vita, despite its poor sells. And who knows? This could be the game changer for Sony. Good way to come back over Nintendo's 3DS, but I doubt it.
Everyone won't flock to pick up Vita's, but it could convince a few people to buy one just for Starbound. That alone may entice Sony to work with Tiy
So in closing, I guess we'll have to wait and see. No telling what the future holds for Starbound on consoles.

I notice most people here dont really seem to care much about consoles, which is a shame because they are not the ones being asked this question, its the ones that actually own consoles. Although I own a Vita and I think it would be a terrific idea to sell to the vita, I unfortunately do not see such an idea benefiting Chucklefish at all unless you can port it over at a very minimal cost. There are not a whole lot of Vita's out there and even though Starbound would be a first on the Vita (second if Terraria comes out first, which is likely) and would probably sell well and is in desperate need for must buy games to save it from life support....selling well on a system with few in circulation doesn't mean much. If you can take do the port or push the port to a 3rd party so that the risk is mitigated then I think that would be a great idea.

Although I do not own a PS3 or Xbox nor will be buying a PS4 my opinion on those systems is much less important, but I could see this game taking off as well as Terraria did on those (no idea what those numbers look like, whether positive or not).

I would not mind as long as:
There is no exclusive content on console
And PC gets the updates first

I own a ps3 and would love for this to happen :)

I don't really hate consoles, I just dislike what they've done to gaming the last 7 or so years.
    • DLC has largely replaced expansion packs.
    • Prices have increased across the board.
    • Graphics technology has been neglected due to aging hardware.
    • Console ports are, more often than not, underwhelming.
That said, if a port to consoles can be achieved without exhausting resources, I'm all for it.

I agree with you, but I feel that I must point out that...

    • DLC has become such a huge thing because gamers fall for the "More contentz for cheapz! lulz."
    • Prices have increased for a number of reasons, but also because gamers are willing to spend it.
    • I can't argue with that one. Though one counter I should point out is that not everyone can afford PC prices.
    • Totally true, but PC ports are often terrible as well, so it works both ways.
Anyway, on topic, as a (former?) PS3 gamer, I say a PS4/handheld version would only help your team as developers. I myself wouldn't want to play a sandbox game on a console, as I'm not a big fan of the controls. Despite of that, however, I would say I am totally for a good port of Starbound, because it's an awesome excuse for you guys to get your name out there and get good publicity! :chucklefish:

"If a port can be created without exhausting resources, I'm all for it!". Unless they outsource it to another developer, that's exactly what will happen. After release, time focused crunching bugs, adding new features, etc will be set aside to make room for console releases unless they outsource it like 505 Games did with Terraria. There's no way around this. That's exactly what it will be whether you choose to believe it or not.

  17. I'm on it for PS4 and Vita, PS3 doesn't seem necessary anymore and there is still the rule of need to find a publisher to get it on PS3, what changed on PS4.

Also, it must be a nice port, not just a "fast-fix" like Terraria did, game must be tweaked to feel natural, without complicated controls that make the gameplay boring.
If DEVs are on it to make a decent port, Starbound on consoles will be a must-buy for me. :alien:

Isn't this rather an error with the people working with consoles than the consoles themselves?

  20. I doesn't agree, that is mostly fault of the studios / publishers that create games, that is also happening on PCs, it's another way to "milk" the games to the max. The graphics neglected is absurd, the PS3 (that people love to point how weak, old and limited it is) evolved graphically over the years and only recently games used 100% of its power:

The same with the ports, there are awesome ports, but the studios need to care, the console itself is capable of that if they care to port it decently.
