I know it's getting recognition for sure, I found this game out by randomly looking threw gaming trailers on youtube and decided to check this one out, named "10 reasons why Starbound is better than Terraria" I was like waaaa? There's a game like terraria? =o "click" My first thought was Take MY money Please.

Also About the art being stolen over the internet, There is alot more than just art. Iv'e had my weapon textured models get stolen before that other people take credit for. Of Course I really go rage when I see someone claiming that it's theirs or they made it.

Good point. As soon as I can figure out these "sub-reddits", hopefully I can use reddit better.

How can it be a sign of Starbound's recognition if nobody knew where it's from?

Additionally, world-wide recognition isn't a problem, we already have users from many different locations, I think you meant to say greater recognition (as in more attention).

I understand, I only got into it because I figured out how it worked due to a particular games sub. Then got into everything else.

Its the idea though. Would you like finding out your artwork was being used places and your weren't getting any credit for it? I think not.

    Ew, Funnyjunk.
    Almost as bad as 9gag.

Why couldn't this be posted on a better site, like 4chan, or Reddit?

  9. Someone on FunnyJunk didn't link back to their source?! Color me surprised. :O

Nawww, that's kind of funny though. I'm always happy to see something Starbound-related somewhere unexpected. :p Someone I went to high school with was telling me earlier that he heard his co-workers talking about Starbound. Preeetty cool!

You would think that people would like to know where stuff comes from. Finds out that not many do, the internet sure is a wacky place.

I wouldn't care either way. Please don't assume for me. Credit is given when credit is known and if someone is interested enough in a piece and has to search down the source that's fine. All someone had to do is ask in the comments, which they have, and few have already answered with a source. Chucklefish is doing it's advertising by word of mouth mostly and it has worked so far these type of situations are included in the process of becoming recognized for certain things. like the silly pixelated penguin.

While your concerns have merit just one image of a penguin isn't hurting anyone, if it was concept art or screenshots and someone actually claiming it as their own that would be a completely different story. While most people wouldn't believe someone posting on FunnyJunk (or any other image board) with content claims without some sort of source or back-up there are many more that would find the source and call them out on their bluff. If it got anymore intense than that's what lawyers are for and something for Chucklefish to handle not the community.

He didn't claim it was his. It's not really stealing art unless someone says "I made this!" when they didn't.

I understand what you're saying, and I get that it was just a little penguin, but it really doesn't matter. Some people take their artwork very seriously, and for someone to claim their hard work, and in some cases their LIVELYHOOD as their own, I would think tends to make people mad. I'm not necessarily talking about the penguin here, I'm just saying that in general, not giving credit where credit is due is a very bad thing, and potential can put people out of a job. Plagiarism is the exact same way. I know several people that are artists, and in this place and time, its *not* an easy business. Look, I'm not being unreasonable here. You're right; that single penguin not being given any credit isn't worth a fuss. I'm merely stating that its the action behind that that hurts people, and THAT's what really ticks me off.

But that's what we're talking about the point the OP made was and I quote:

Yet the poster DID NOT take credit for it, you're getting into a big fuss about people taking credit for something when no one has. If the poster didn't know where the original image came from (which was stated that it just came from Imgur and no one credited where he ripped it from) and didn't claim ownership then why did it need to be mentioned? People post images through-out the internet that come from a variety of different places and never give credit, whether it's art or not. While I understood what you were getting mad about that doesn't pertain to the situation at hand. Anyways, Forever's post about sums up my interest in this Thread.

Yeah I see what your saying, but this was the first time I heard that (the thing about it being ripped from imgur). You're certainly right, one cannot blame another if they didn't take credit. I didn't know that. So, you'll have to excuse my misunderstanding.
