I'll read the rest once I have more time, I've been busy recently hence my inactivity in the forums and working on this lore, but I think it's unlikely that greenfinger is the cause for almost everything, but there definitely is a great connectivity between all the races. My reason for saying greenfinger is responsible for everything, is because he is still floran, and the hell logs show he has not been well known for all of floran history. He rose to his current prowess in science after much hard work, but the florans are still a relatively new race compared to the others it seems. So it is impossible for him to be responsible for other races if he came after them.

Thank you haha, I personally much disliked the burying by beta cries, but as I said, I've been gove for vacation and busy so I haven't had time to manage this more :p Hopefully I can get back to it soon.

    - Greenfinger discovers drysap in bone plants
    - Greenfinger tests drysap on greenguard Florans
    - Drysap reproduce itself inside Florans, replacing their blood
    - Drysap Florans stop needing water, start having nightmares about "oaken soldier"
    - Drysap Florans start looking weird to other florans (Bark skin?)
    - Drysap Florans become super-strength armor-skinned supersoldiers
    - Intelligent Florans reject the effects of drysap completely, also become remote and loners
    - Eventually reject all society and go live alone
    - Floran player is an intelligent Floran who was injected with drysap.

For anyone who is curious, I know I was, there are 6 new codexes in this patch. 5 for the bosses, 1 survival guide. None really pertain to the lore too much other than the origins of the bosses, but naturally I will add them to the OP probably tomorrow.

I added in the boss stories, they have some references to the main lore, but they don't really have too much to add to the main story line it seems. Still interesting if you've read the whole lore. I left out the survival guide as well because it falls under the same category as controls.

Good job on these. It is a bit of a let down how these really don't add much. Besides Dreadwing and Fatal Circuit, the boss lore writing just feels like the developers writing entries speaking directly to the player, as opposed to how the other codexes sound like journal entries from someone in game. Kind of... meh,

I agree, they could have done it differently. I don't know what they are aiming for with the codexes now, like if they have their setting made and then the player is suppose to continue on? Or will they be adding more story. I hope it's the latter. It would have been nice to see some stories of the bosses in the main stories oppose to a codex on each specifically that made up some past experiences for them. Like if Hiraki Corale had told us of her time taming the bone dragon, I would have preferred that to "Hiraki Corale tamed the bone dragon once and forgot how."

Am I the only one who's getting real tired of Hikari? It's like they tried to make a memetic badass but failed and made a Mary Sue.

I wouldn't call Hikari so much a mary sue or badass than more like a oblivious traveler who happens to get into situations she has no reason to be in.

Hikari reminds me of Jackie Chan beating up bad guys by accident by just walking carelessly through a room and tripping over stuff, etc.

Slowly the floran lore is getting me more and more into them... they have a very interesting culture though their culture is primitiv. But again I see quite a few similarities to humanity which is good (atleast for me).
Humans and Florans are kinda battling now after I read the lore entries I didnt got for first place. Doesnt change my main characters race however which is a human.

Well hopefully my main character and I dont end like Karl Ernst Rasch from Crysis 3... battling ALL of them and loosing, getting absorbed and finally being one of them...

Ok that was weird and creepy. No humans still rule over florans hehe.
Specially since they used chemical weapons already against them which fits to the cruelness humanity has IRL aswell

I personally enjoy Hiraki, as Zelthar said she's just a culturally oblivious traveller trying to understand the world.
    Thank you!
The Floran lore did the same thing to me, and was my main motivation for this thread. It's a shame that humanity's chemical warfare only resulted in drunk florans though, I don't picture a drunk floran being much better company than a sober one.

Hehe yeah, humanity got dozens of weapons of mass destruction for their own kind but fail at fighting some plant people ^^
Drunken Florans still want to stab somebody i guess. Then cooking you haha

Hmm... I'm getting very curious as to who the [Redacted] was in the conference call between Thornwing, Greenfinger, and Big Ape.

I have to say, Hiraki Corale's adventures have to be the best things I've read in the codex so far, not to mention suprisingly informative into the lore.

Agreed, it's certainly curious. I've tried my best to speculate what the conversation is about, but because [Redacted] only said one line "Are you serious?" my speculation is they are a new commer to the group oppose to one of the three friends. "We have big things to dicuss." "Like joke x" "and joke y" "Are you serious?" In my head the are you serious comes off in disgust, but there's really not enough context to tell anything about it, that's just how I see it xP

Just reporting in, so people know this still lives. There are still 231 codexes total.

More people need to read up on their lore. It provides useful information that not many are familiar with. Let's see if we can bump this awesome thread.

    I think she's Starbound's version of a Kender...

Happy-go-lucky, extremely fortunate to not have died already, kleptomaniac with insatiable wanderlust, and very nimble.

I do wonder about Greenfinger, since it seems that he is incredibly intelligent, but not guaranteed to be Floran (I don't think there's any direct references that say he's Floran).

My personal suspicions is that Rochard Hawkins was treated to the sight of a Novakid (the Sunborn), which was either held captive by the Clipped Council, or a paid actor. This would "prove" that the old gods exist, therefore lend credibility to those that say the new god (Kluex) also exists.

I also think it's funny how Big Ape has a Wizard of Oz theme going on, plus the whole 1984 stuff. Or maybe V for Vendetta. I dunno, but it's neat, and I would be very intrigued to see who he actually is. Especially if he's a penguin.

Didn't read the thread. Just going to give my 2 cents on Starbound lore.

What with the universe being procedurally generated and being, well, a huge goddamn universe, it stands to reason you'll never encounter the areas or characters depicted in lore entries. In all likelihood, they simply don't exist within the game. Lore entries should be complementary to the role-playing aspect of the game; here, they both exist in separate bubbles, the disconnect is huge. Lore entries are no more relevant to your character than random fan fiction you'd find on this board. And I don't like reading fan fiction.

I read every book in Morrowind because it was mostly related to the game world. In Starbound, aside from the broad strokes of race cultures you pick up from the lore, I struggle to find any incentive to read on. Why care about Hikari when she'll never be encountered? It only serves to outline just how empty and boring the universe is.

For me, the lore is just a good story, and past cultural conventions doesn't really have much effect on my roleplaying, I do however find the lore a fascinating read regardless. Do you not read a book simply because you can't meet a character from said book?
