Starbound Lore

How many books are in each set, and how many sets are there?

 

For the Codexes themselves? It ranges from 1 to around 11 I think is the highest. There are currently a total of 225 codexes in the game.

 

Updated the order of the chapters so that part is more intuitive.
If anyone notices any plot holes in this arrangement or missing codexes in the chapters, please let me know.

 

I know it's a lot to ask, but I'd love if someone went through and proof read my stuff to make sure it's all in coherent order. Also, I'm a terrible writer, but some parts seem to have poor transitions and it'd be nice if someone helped me out there, I think I've gone pretty much as far as I can with this without completely ruining the story xD

 

*Sigh* I've been second page'd numerous times now within 5 minutes, I think this is my last self-bump, hopefully it can generate enough interest to get some discussion going. There are still loose ends in the lore. Mods, what I'd really love a lore sub-thread *wink* *wink* but I guess from general populace there isn't much interest in the lore and more interest in 100 people finding something posted in the changelog. Sorry, I'm bitter I was hoping this post would be bigger, I was really love the lore and was looking forward to discussing it more and get a better feel for things I may have missed.

On a side note, I just realized I have no idea to change thread titles

Haha I feel the same way, once I started reading the lore I got so hooked I went and read all the codexes xD But I think about half the people interested in the lore want to find the codexes themselves, and another large group of people can't be bothered to start reading the first post because of length, but I think I'm going to compose a list of unfinished questions I still have and see what kind of a discussion I get salvage.

 

I just finished reading the entirety of the OP, it's good to have all of this in one peice and I appreciate putting them together and guessing their chronological order. I need to refer a few people to this post, as it's informative and answers a lot of questions about the races, their origins, and their way of life.

Shame there isn't much Hyotl stuff, they're growing on me, and I have a increasing respect for the Groundless and how the Clipped Council seems so suspicious. Worse still when that Grounded was so against Kluex, then completely changed his mind, which if I'm not reading in too much is somewhat disturbing and hints at darker things afoot. Makes me wonder what's really going on with the Undead Avian Tombs.

 

Yeah, the grounded who so drastically changes his opinion upon "meeting Kluex". That's Rochard Hawkings I believe, and similar sudden changes in opinion have happened with Big Ape too, so there's a chance Big Ape and Kluex are working together as has been mentioned in other threads.

Edit: On Hylotl, I'm guessing more will be added with their villages. The codexes for it may already be mostly written just not implemented because you'd only find them in the village, in the ocean. (The ocean biomes post just made me think of this).

I really love the lore of this game. I wish we could actually visit Earth on the main quest,that'd be quite a twist,seeing as it was "eaten",it seems like an interesting setting.

 

I believe right now they are planning on having it as a destination? I thought I heard that somewhere?

 

I imagine it might be, I'm guessing we'd find it tentacle infested.

 

Well, there are tentacle biomes already. But one of the things in in the codexes is greenfinger making a mention of the one that hit earth:

"Humanity fled their home planet, the one they call Earth, after a rapidly-growing beast landed upon the surface, and within no time at all, began to consume their entire world. I have no words. I did not know this was possible. The subject has always lain dormant. For this to occur... It must be dealt with, and severely. One day I will travel to Earth myself, to see exactly what the beast has become."

This leads me to believe that the tentacle biomes we come across are dormant versions of what hit Earth.

 

As I'm reading these I love how interconnecting they are. Names and people keep showing up to form a working story. Thornwing, Greenfinger, they keep showing up. One an avian, one an ??? (I suspect Floran) they know of Big Ape so they are clearly connected. But why...

Oh and Hiraki Corale...such an innocent character.

 

Yeah! That's what I loved about it so much too. There's so much big connection going on. I suspected that the ??? was Human or maybe Hylotl or Glitch, just following that representives from the other 3 races are already there and Greenfinger makes mention to wanting to meet with the Human representative should one exist and he would contact Big Ape and Thornwing about arranging such a meeting.

 

Did the devs mention that they might be putting in codex related planets into the game? I feel like a story like this would be terrible to not see play out.

 

I'm pretty sure it has been discussed before. But I forget how it turned out. I personally believe it would be awesome to have defined planets in the game, but it may be tricky.
