Starbound knock-offs?

Discussion in 'Starbound Discussion' started by Pacific, Sep 1, 2012.

  1. You never know. Being ancient, they probably wouldn't know any better.

Ya know everyone gives Giorgio A. Tsoukalos (the guy in the picture) so much hassle, but he is just very dedicated lol. And the hair... is.... hypnotizing.. lol

  3. What really gets me about that guy is that he went on TV with that hair. He had a lot of notice beforehand, but he woke up, looked in the mirror, and said "alright, everything seems to be in order. Bring on the cameras!"

lol he was trying to start a new fad.. they call it "disheveled" lol

Edit: if you look at his other pictures, he is a lot more calm, personality and hair wise, also I am glad i am not the only one who watches Ancient Aliens.. though some of those seasons were kinda dry, it is better then 90% of the "Reality TV" everything is turning into. (IMO of course)

It's more of Firefox v. Chrome, but everyone loves to hate IE. Safari is much worse than the new IE, which has gotten much better over the years. Safari, on the other hand, really hasn't. The newest IE is only slightly slower than FF, and has addons and the like.

  6. It does have addons but it still pesters you to use bing and install this bing app, and you know what? Bing is terrible. FF and Chromium (no Chrome, I don't want you tracking me for targeted advertising thx) leave me in peace.

I used to use FF, but it kept crashing and running slowly overall, so I switched to Chrome, and haven't had a problem since. It pretty much comes down to system specs though. For lower memory computers, I would recommend Chrome, but if you have 8gb of ram like me, it doesn't really matter which you choose.

  8. Yeah, I found that with FF too. But, as I said, Chrome tracks what pages you view, in order to try and sell you things. Chromium doesn't have that feature, but if you run windows, you have to compile it yourself, and I don't really have the skill or patience to do that atm. Right now, I'm using a Chromium derivative called SRW Iron.

Knock off of an unreleased game, seems legit.

My AVG do not track helps with this, but I don't really notice it. Would it be a pop up, or what? I haven't had Chrome actively try to sell me anything, but if you mean banner ads on websites being on topic with what I view, I'm okay with that. I've found various games through banner ads.

On Topic: I don't really see how a game that is similar is a rip-off. A rip-off in my mind is when someone takes the exact same ideas, concepts, game-play, and content, changes it slightly, and passes it off as their own. That isn't what happened here. These games are just similar in idea and execution, but have different content and game-play.

but thats the thing, what you just said is how what you consider a rip-off to be. it might be different for someone else

same here, Firefox runs wonderfully and is quite stable.

  14. Check that shit.

Avg won't warn you because it's not a virus; it's something you tacitly agreed to by installing. I don't have a problem with what they do with the information. My issue is more with the fact that they sneak a permission form into the TOS, and the implications of what they could do with your data. It's the principle of it.

Yes, COD is not a ripoff of BF (and vice-versa). The only things that I can think of, that are a bonafide ripoff are those action figures you find at dollar stores. The ones that are made of an oddly soft plastic, and called things like "TRANSFORMATRON" or "G.I. Jack".

  15. It's best not to compare browsers (or any programs) based on memory usage, because that field is sort of a nightmare. The advantage FOSS (like FF of Chromium--NOT Chrome) programs have over proprietary ones is that the code is out there, in its entirety, so you can tell exactly what is going on.

Yeah, you know it's funny, lately both Chrome and FF have used about the same amount of memory on my rig, but it used to be FF used more. I dunno, there are always fluctuations, depends on the website, etc...
They only sneak it in because they know people won't read them anyway. I do, I've never hit "I agree." without reading the entire document. I am fine with what they are currently doing with my information, and am not worried about them doing something worse. If they do, I will stop using their browser. I haven't been wronged by Google yet, and they seem like one of the more reputable large corporations, even if they do have their hands in just about everything. (Buy n' Large anyone?)

I don't understand your counter argument here, and if you weren't making one, okay. The only thing I can do on a discussion forum is post my opinion.

  17. That may well be his own opinion, but I think that it is also something approaching the legal definition of copyright infringement.

personally i look at knockoffs like same idea but a different perspective. this game is still in development so another games should not be seen as knockoffs because nothing is diffident right now.

  19. See, I disagree with this, because a different perspective can make all of the difference. Take Portal 2D (or whatever it's called) for example. I would not call that a knock-off of Portal, because it's an entirely different take on the original. Making a game that explores a mechanic used in another game, but in a different way is completely fine, because the devs are doing something that wasn't done in the game that inspired theirs.

Never said you had to agree haha its just how i see and i agree. however with a game thats done with upates and such or in development its still a game either way correct? don't hate me for this but look at minecraft for instance people don't make a new game to add items with their own uses they mod! mo creatures or tekkit or even bigger mods to come some games don't alow that and im sure you though "Wow imagine if that was in the game" some people go through in what if and make it happen.
