Neither game has even been released yet, and already a fan-war has started.

    The gaming industry is doomed.

Lol there is always "Fan-War" look at Dayz and WarZ as someone mentioned earlier.. That one is getting much more vicious then this heh.. I truly hope you are joking though or you have overreacted quite a bit

I think it's pretty one sided actually. There's nothing negative about SB on EoS's forum.

When people argue over which game is better when none of us have actually played either, it's ridiculous. Fan wars are simply two or more sides who hate each other for laughable reasons. PC vs Mac, anyone?

I agree, and I also think to hate on another game just because it is similar is also wrong. When logic ends Fan Wars... Begin! :p

Fan wars should not happen. Period. I agree with you there.
Here's where I disagree, most times these fan wars start is over "real" reasons. Just about as real as the game they themselves are following. Just because someone doesn't like a game for some reason doesn't make their point "laughable". I don't like EoS because of the art style, not because I think its a rip-off in any way. My point is, the reasoning behind most of the jabs these fan wars use is the things they themselves judge their own game by. Its a preference, and people are entitled to their opinions.

As for what the thread is named, how about you go look at a game called Terraria. Then Minecraft. Then Infiniminer. Give me a break, there's no reason to hate a game purely because it reuses some ideas. Don't hate because there's competition rejoice that there is. More games for us, and if they do a bad job then that's their fault, but that's exactly the point. You shouldn't hate something because it is competing. That's a good thing. It's worse if it doesn't compete. Then there's less quality games for us.

this is a wonderful point, want to know what you get when a game has little competition in its market?
bland, low content, shiny graphic, exact-replica-of-the-last-one games like Call of Duty: generic shooter formula 999(don't even get me started on CoD), and other such games.

without legitimate competition games turn out bland and "bare minimum", because that's all the developers have to do, make the bare minimum and it will fly out the doors because there are not any other teams that can make something close to it.
This is WHY popular indie games usually have decent quality, go take a look at most indie game repositories and its pages and pages of dispensable crap, to rise above the sea of mediocrity you have to WORK for it, an unchallenged indie dev would become as lazy as those big companies are with game development in a few years time, as they wouldn't have to work as hard for the same returns.

Some times it makes ya hope it is DLC so you don't have to pay for it as full price for a game. Huh, Didn't thought I would be endorsing DLC anymore. Funny how it works out heh :)

A very good point, and why we should condone "Insperations" from other games, this helps the indie devs (Who are already working with their "New thing" and working with these "Insperations"), and surprisingly in mods it usually goes over a lot better. There is always someone with an idea, hey this game has this would you add it? So why not with indi games in general?

Note: I understand mod's are free, but I think the concept still holds true

Edit: There is not a lot you can tell from pictures (and maybe short videos), and by saying that I do have to admit an indie game can be too much like another indie game (though... I ask.. name one. I am actually curious, I mean in full release not just "Projects"). That could happen, and when that occurs you should get your money back.. But that goes to the system.. which is broken (I won't go into that.. heh)

Please explain to me a real reason why you should hate someone just because of what they like and don't like. Oh wait, there is none.

The problem with fan wars is NOT that people share their opinions on why they don't like the other game, and why they like their game more. That's perfectly reasonable, and promotes competition. However, the problem arises when people actually start HATING each other just because they prefer another game. I've seen multiple cases where PC users won't even talk to Mac users, simply because they like another OS more. I've seen thousands of Minecraft fans bash Terraria's fans (not the game, the fans, though it can often be both). I've seen one guy insult Terraria's entire fanbase, saying that it's filled with 'retarded scrubs.'

The problem with fan wars is that people hate each other for stupid reasons. Friendly competition is good because the debates are normally pretty casual and fair. Fan wars are an entirely different story.

In short, hating on someone just because they are a fan or isn't a fan of something is stupid and immature. That is why fan wars shouldn't happen.

And you seem to be confused on the difference between a friendly competition and a fan war.

As was pretty clear in my post, I wasn't talking about fans basing fans rather fans bashing the game. Sorry for the misunderstanding. ;)

EDIT: Also I agree with you, there's no reason to hate someone, but as I said, that wasn't my point. :)

I'm going to go out there and be the guy who points out his flaws. Report me for slander, Whatever floats yer boat.

For one, He has no loyalty to the game's he's played. He played Terraria, and literally as SOON as it was confirmed there would be no more updates, he pretty much ditched terraria for other games, one of them being league of legends.

Two, I remember A time where he advocates spamming devolpers email address's to get into a beta. He doesnt even imply it, he straight out says 'it doesnt matter what the email is, the more you send the better a chance you get' which is true in its own right, But still a dick move. The game in question was Scrolls. This was also during/after the whole drama with... Bethesda? Dunno if I spelled that right. So that was just throwing more stuff on Mojangs platter for no reason. And I believe he's confirmed that he's not going to do any content of it.

Three, On the very same video, I told him this was a bad idea. First thing he does? Send his fans after me, make a witty response, And then block me, while continuing to harass me on several occasions. Just because my opinion wasnt his.

Four, He disables ratings on his own videos, and has to approve every single comment on a good majority of them. So there is literally no way for him to be to be 'wrong' in his little world, Because he's censoring other peoples views and opinions. And hell, some of these videos arent even his, and some are staged. Like in his Pentakills series.

And five, He acts like something he's really not. Remember the Reborn mod, and how he was such a 'big part' of that? Guess who brought the project down to shambles, and blames the other team members? He 'tried' to get the mod back on its feet, Which I highly doubt was anything more then just saying 'hey can you do this again no okay bye'.

So, Yeah, I'm nearly entirely sure I've broken some kind of forum rule, But I thought I'd shed some light on the situation, And I'm not willing to glorify him in the least.

Bashing a game is the most common way to start a fan war because of how insulting it sounds. There are better ways of starting an argument than 'this game sucks.'

Peacefully saying why you like or dislike a game with respect to the other side is the best way to prevent fan wars, and have friendly competition instead.

whats unfortunate is that peaceful criticism just causes those same fanboys to get pissy anyways, many people are of the opinion that their favorite game/company is literally infallible.

dont worry, defaming someone is something, but what you did was educating peoples. every sides of something needs to be known before any sort of judgement can be done.
so thanks, i finally know, at least as far as you go, why some people might hate him

I'm not going to be so shallow as to believe I speak for everything. This is mostly how I've viewed him, and my very few personal interactions with him. If you could even call it that.

On the topic of fanboys getting their collective jimmies rustled, I believe it's because a very large majority of people are close minded. For example, I firmly believe in the fact that if you're going to say somethings bad, say why. How is this dumb, If you're clearly too dumb to explain why its dumb? It's Schrodinger's Dumb for christs sake. Why not offer advice to help? I see this all the time in League of Legends, Where nearly every game, someone calls another person a noob. Myself not excluded, But at least I offer advice to others, even if I'm frustrated at the time.

It's simple to say "You're a retard, Harry" But it's also that easy to say "Hey man, Maybe you should focus on building more Attack Damage instead of Ability Power?". Even if they dont accept your help, There's always someone out there who will, and really, Isn't that reason enough to type out a simple sentence offering advice?

I don't believe its defaming to reveal the scum of the earth for what they really are past all the blind fanboyism.
its like telling people actual quotes from EA's CEO (a true POS in the flesh)

basically all you are doing is telling people stuff how it is, not sugar coating or being blinded by somebodies own popularity.

also, if Hero were to get a beta copy of Starbound or some other publicity crap it would severely, SEVERELY, negatively impact my opinion of Starbound's devs, as giving a game to somebody like him, for publicity is just horrid.

I'd like to believe I'm above hating someone and still not treating them like a person. His fanbase isnt the worst, nor the best I've seen. If he got a beta copy of the game and was allowed to upload videos of it, I can't say I'd be against it. I just wouldn't watch, or care about it. Cuz lets face it pbats getting the first beta copy if it ever happens lol

The dev's have a choice in who they give the game to, But if they were to go through every persons history, I can say nearly 100% for sure that they're going to find something they wont like.

eh, its not so much as it being something not to like, but more his entire character as a human being, and he honestly falls under the class of people I am ashamed to be in the same species as.

actually the person who represents the game does matter i mean id rather give chuckle fish my money than EA this isnt EA games hate rage or anything i mean they make decent games except need for speed they kinda beat that one to death its not even worth it anymore but the point is id rather have a dev team thats straight with me vs one that uses back alleys and shifty go betweens i havent brought an ea game in a while not because i hate them but because i feel that there DRM has just gotten redicoulous

starbound on the other hand what ever drm they come up with if any i look forward to finding reasonable not because there hard core awesome but because they seem to know what the fans want
