Was looking through Steam Greenlight and saw some games that could have been ripped off from Starbound's idea. The other games are not as far in development. But it looks Starbound has the most presteem and the biggest world.

BTW, is starbound on green light?

Could we get the names of a few?

^ This. I mean, it's not like we're lazy or anyhting; we just think it'll be a heck a lot easier to look for them if we have the names ready.

Im not sure the mods will allow me to broadcast names of knock offs. If I get an okay, then I will. Otherwise u will have to look em up.

How do you rip off of a game that is still months away from release anyway?

You can rip off an idea. It's possible. Think of the big Ford scandal with the idea of who released the windshield wipers first

LOL. I swear there is a going to be an 80s revival in the USA. I see some 80-based games. Oniken. Awesome!

  7. I honestly would rather see the games myself before judging it and calling them knock-offs.

    But other than that, I honestly hope nobody here is going to all "omg [inset game name here] is ripoff of Starbound!", especially if that person is one of the people who thought Starbound was not a ripoff of Terraria. Not pointing anyone out here, but I'm just hoping nobody does that >_>;

Okay. Fine. The one I think is a knock is Edge of Space. Seriously look at their site and the Greenlight article.

i'd like to see this as a raising fad of a new game genre~

Wasn't it a lady who drove a bus?
OT: I think that this game has similarities to many other side-scrollers/futuristic games, so I don't think that they stole anything from a game that hasn't even been released.

Hahaha i find this extremely funny actually. One of the developers (or whatever. He's with the team) for Edge of Space is HERO, a well-known Terraria player.

Lol so when Terraria split it created the children of Starbound and Edge of Space. Except Starbound has been right alot longer and endorsed by the guy who started Terraria.

Well edge of space looks like a 2D side scrolling mining space game. It looks similar to Starbound, but I doubt it's ripping off starbound specifically. It's more like a similar version of terraria, though I still wouldn't call it ripping off just because it incorporated the element of side scrolling, mining, crafting, space, and block-by-block map format.

Well, I still don't think that edge of space is a clone of starbound just because they've branched off the same game. They're more like brothers; the older brother has been taking into a rich family at birth, and provided everything it needs to achieve greatness; meanwhile, the poor, deformed and mentally challenged younger brother was tossed onto the street, and left to it's own devices; the younger brother need to get to work sooner due to lack of money, whilst the older brother would wait until the end of the year to graduate and be awesome. I still wouldn't call the younger bother a copy of the older one.

While I find EoS's fans to be a bit too much on the uptight side of things, I think the OP is being a little premature (even though by employing the same graphics engine that powers Terraria, this kind of talk is to be expected.)

Wait. Which is the older brother?

  18. ._. ...

Guess who's not buying Edge of Space then.

But despite my decision, I still would like to have a look at the game before judging whether it's a knockoff or not. But due to my decision, I will never find out.

-sighs- hero is just a speaker for the game who helped get the word out, i know because i like hero, though recently ive stopped watching mainly out of my own boredom, for those of you who arnt buying EoS simply because of a single person. how bloody stupid are you? you dont kill a herd because of one deformed animal do you? you dont murder a family because they simply dont have what you do. and to say EoS is ripping off of starbound is like....ripping off minecraft. need i remind you of the fact that these games have wholly different styles? EoS: your on a fucking meteor, literally in space. hint :EDGE of SPACE.
starbound has locations between many many different worlds. generated differently and never having the same worlds twice.
edge of space is...similarly generated like terraria, set world but diffrently generated each time. each time having the same starting gear. im not saying this is bad, but its a formula that worked with terraria. and if so should work for EoS
