Starbound is getting worse?

First of all I want to apologize for my english, I'm not a native english speaker so yea. But I'm learning from time to time though.
(It's just my opinion, I'm not hating or anything.) So with the new content that has been added to the unstable build, I feel like starbound has become worse. I find the content itself not bad or anything, but it's just not very fitting. Enraged Koala is fine in my opinion, and I think if I'm ever going to play starbound again, I'll just play that version. Starbound is of course a Sci-Fi game with rpg elements, but with the new content I feel like it's become a 12 year olds game. Because of some silly things that make the game less Sci-Fi. Example: The staffs. I mean.. magic? In a Sci-Fi game? They just don't fit in. Or the new computer thingy, S.A.I.L or however it's name is. Does it really have to be there? I feel dumb if that computer has to tell me every little thing. I mean it's not like I couldn't start missions myself. If he would be there just for the techs that would be alright. There are some other things that bother me too but anyway, what I'm trying to say here is that the new content is just too much. Or atleast some of it.
Am I the only one who thinks like this?
Feel free to discuss with me if you like so.

I like pretty much every change that has come down the pipe. The game feels more fluid, the Outpost is a great central hub for quest gathering and has huge potential as more and more content is added to the game. SAIL is great for giving players direction in what to do next and upgrading their character/matter manipulator/ship. It doesn't make me feel dumb. I have yet to try to use one of those staves but I fail to see why it is a big deal. I believe there was a quote floating around that was something similar to this: "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." I just pretend those staves are super highly advanced energy weapons or something to that effect. To each his own I guess.

I enjoy the new quest system and don't mind SAIL at all. The game stutters a little more than it used to, and occasionally de-syncs on a planet while I'm mining, forcing me to leave that planet and go mine elsewhere. I'll be mining and all of a sudden this will stop happening, similar to how you play a multiplayer game and lose connection. However I'm playing single player, so I'm not sure how it could desync/lag. I've yet to find a good food recipie for healing, so I'm stuck making medkits for now, however that's an improvement over bandages I believe. Everything seems improved to me, just the game is a bit more unstable. Even the monster strength progression seems to have smoothed a little. I seem a bit more durable than I used to be at certain points, although I'm only up to durasteel armor and will be venturing out to frozen and fiery stars after getting a bit more uranium.

The current unstable update feels like a necessary step in the evolution of the game. There are a few things that make no sense to me (picks being near useless, furnaces not cooking anymore) but most of what I've seen is great. The previous progression system was a joke and was a placeholder, so the quest system is a welcome change. I've not had problems with finding ore, I've not had problems with the quests other than that some of the quest-like prompts don't identify them as something different which leads to confusion when they don't show up ever again, even in the log. But, I'd say mostly, the game is making some much needed changes. Now if we can see some of the balancing we need happen, some form of civilization/town management, more animal and NPC behaviorism, mounts and vehicles, server tools that matter, server-side modding and file transfer, no client-side modding on servers/checksums with modded files, global accounts (Minecraft) that characters are tied to instead of just characters stored on client-side machines and optimization all in a stable update, we're golden.

It also needs to be said that science and magic are basically the same thing and, while I get your point that they are thematically different (wizards/space marines), we travel to other worlds. Worlds that have not progressed to space travel, worlds that have. In the vastness of the universe, there could be worlds that are magically inclined which means staves that shoot magic are feasible. There is room in the universe for both science and magic. Also, medieval robots should throw out the notion of this-has-to-be-futuristic-space-themed at any time.

I have minor complaints about the update but there is really one thing I don't like, but wont bother to post on because it will never be changed, human s.a.i.l is fine they are just a computer face, but other races s.a.i.l.s are just way to silly for me. They are supposed to be your spaceship computer not a horse that makes goofy faces. Even the hylotls is okay, but the others are just flat out silly. Not horrible but way silly.

As for energy weapon staves.. just a few examples.

Note: You can put a gun into just about any object of adequate size per type of bullet/accuracy/range you want and boom - a weapon that is walking cane, or a staff, or.. oh what's that? That's just my guitar.

The changes they have made need some more finetuning but all in all I really like the direction of where this is going. I find it to be more clear on what to do next and how to get it. Everything seems way more structured and "glued together".
But it needs some more content, more meat. A few unique armor sets, special mini bosses, events, fossil system, etcetera. Really looking forward to it all.

Seems like most people disagree on the things I've said.
I'm just not feeling the new content, apart from the missions, biome, the new dungeons, ship/matter manipulater upgrades and the new food recipes.
I just don't like anything else... I guess I can't do anything about it.
Oh and by the way, I normally play starbound alone. But I'm tired of it. Can I join someone? I'm currently playing Enraged Koala, I'm not a newcomer (played 286 hours in total), and the most important of all: I'm kind :halo:.
I would be very happy if I could play with someone or even better: with a group of people. My Steam name is Vaqunc so just add me there.

Saying it's becoming a game for 12-year-olds is a bit redundant, seeing as it's made for (almost!) all ages. Additionally, adding different elements (such as fantasy in a sci-fi setting) doesn't necessarily affect the age group the game is catered to.
Ships tend to run 10x more efficiently with an A.I., in a sci-fi sense. It's like this game's version of Navi. Annoying as hell, yes. Captain Obvious, definitely. But still helpful in it's own way.

Now, as for the game getting worse...
As of the last unstable, Starbound has kinda stepped away from the sandbox idea.*
Now, sure, you can build on most planets. There's tons of blocks, procedural generation, and all of that...
But the quests as they stand are quite linear, and always the same. All of them originate in the same place. We even have platformer-style missions, and now, dungeons that we can't damage untilwe complete them. Tier restriction, too, isn't exactly "sandbox".
That's not to say that Starbound isn't a sandbox. In some ways, it is. But in other ways, recently added ways, it isn't. Which is one of the reasons why some pre-order customers are displeased about the direction of the game.

The question of whether Starbound is getting worse is subjective. Others may enjoy the new direction of the game, as pure sandbox can easily get stale and boring. The question is not whether or not Starbound is getting worse, but rather, if Starbound is changing in ways other than new content being added.
Now, if we had some procedurally-generated quests... that would be something.

*Please note: this is based off of my own observation and comparison between the current unstable build and the initial idea, along with those of my friends and associates. This is not, in any way, based off of, or reflecting, any articles or blog posts regarding the game's future development.

We need a reason to care about building, something to add the sand back into the box. Greater array of machines, a fuel source to use them that we can produce with ores, town/civilization management at the cost of pixels that we use to expand and protect the land, configurable NPCs, a way to heat buildings (tech kind of ruined that in this update). Something, ANYTHING, other than killing and mining. The quests I don't have a problem with, they help distract me from the monotony currently present in the game. We need more distraction from that, more ways to play, so we don't burn out. Things to micromanage.

That's an awesome idea. If the devs would add something like that, my mind would be blown.

You're complaining that staffs are "magic" in a universe where we have a hand-held device that arbitrarily, remotely disrupts matter.

If they called them some nonsense like "nonlinear energetic pulse devices" you'd have no problem with it.

The game may feel that way right now, but it's because the building and agricultural ways of progressing through the game have not been added yet. Tiy said that they were adding the adventurer path first. So yeah, ship upgrades and quests, and no need to make a farm or build things. But when this path will be finished, they'll add ways to get pixels and upgrades by creating farms or building houses to rent to the NPCs (the better the house, the higher the rent). With these paths, the game should feel more sandboxy.

See, I always felt like, even from the initial idea, that the truly sandbox portion of the game would be -- at the end of the 'story' or progression through the game. A lot of the features which some people don't like have been talked about since, if not the beginning, then near the beginning (the un-build/destroyable dungeons being an example).

For me, I absolutely adore the idea that once I've conquered the galaxy (either militarily [adventure]. economically [agricultural?], or by being the ultimate slum lord by controlling territory [building?]) .. THEN I can go around and do all kinds of crazy things, shaping the universe to my ultimate design. Mwah.. MWAHHAHAHAHAHA. *cough*

Yes. What were we talking about?

I hope there are no Starbound login servers that we have to login to every time we want to launch our servers.

We really do not need overlords watching what we do all the time, if you don't like open servers don't join make your own.

Secure servers with a password is the best option you can do that with free software.

    About the staffs...

Psionics are a thing in science fiction. XCOM: Enemy Unknown has it as a pretty big gameplay element.
