Starbound - Hamachi... I need help...

I also suggest you leave "bind" : "*" instead of specifying an IP in your config. This allows the server to listen on all valid adapters. (Your local IP & the IP Hamachi gives you.)

(Port forwarding is still the best way though.)

    I'll try that thanks!

EDIT: darn it was already set to that :(

Also port-forwarding is actually fairly secure. Hamachi believe it or not, can become more of a vulnerability than port-forwarding ever will be. When people talk about the security of using VPN, they're more referring to using a private network to mask their IP more than anything else. Hamachi's main flaw is that you (and anyone connected) act as the network itself, viruses can spread fairly easily through hamachi as easily as you can access files on a connected party's computer.

    I still prefer Hamachi :p

This is why i have a feeling it has to do with me being 64-bit and him being 32-bit.... but it can't be.... can it?

What're your IPs? Are you on the same subnet? Can you ping each other? (Perhaps one way but not the other?)

If you can't ping eachother then you're not going to get very far doing anything else. (Unless there's a firewall specifically blocking IGMP packets.)

For the Hamachi connection (for you and your friend) What's your IP, subnet mask, & default gateway? Are there any other settings? Does Hamachi support IPv6? Areyou both trying to use it instead of v4? (Starbound might not support v6 yet.)

Yea I have allowed EVERYTHING in my firewall

This MUST be a ME problem because my friend connected to my server on my old PC
And yea we were using v4

Everything is fine on my end everything is fine on my friends end (from what he says)
He isn't willing to do anything unless I can convince him the problem is with his PC... Yet I know it's not

Could this be a Windows 8 "thing"?

No. I'm running Windows 8 and I have no trouble connecting to my friends nor do they have trouble connecting to me. Now STAYING connected on the other hand....

hmmm this problem is just incomprehensible

If you are on the same network, you shouldn't need Hamachi or port-forwarding.

Port-forwarding is needed when a server is waiting for unsolicited data and is behind something like a router. The router will receive the packets but not know where to send the data. When you are on a network together, however, you should be using your network address, which means the router knows where to send it and thus port-forwarding isn't needed.

Sorry, I don't have a solution for hamachi.

Like I said I didn't put it in there because this isn't exactly a "Starbound" problem... more of a my PC problem

While it may not be more of a Starbound problem, I suspect that more technical players hang around that section as opposed to General Discussion.

EDIT: Nevermind. It got moved already.

Have you tried turning the firewall completely off? Can your friend connect to in any way for anything else via Hamachi? (Something other than starbound?)

(You should seriously consider port-forwarding. You'd have been done already.)

Yea i turned my firewall off for multiple tests with it :(

Right now I'm going to see if I can join my friends Starbound server
I haven't tried this before because my friends PC is horribly crappy and i doubt he can run a server and play at the same time

... And yea I see it got moved... :p

I'm trying the 4th solution but I can't seem to find out where to change it? I would of added a picture but the website delete it right away :p
Also I don't have anything called "home" just public and private

Either way I can't change it... windows 8 is a whole new territory

Ah, yea. I'm running windows 8 as well and noticed that setback (I'll edit the guide to specify). Did you not set your network at home (I'm assuming that's where you are trying to play) to private when you connected the first time to it?

Lol honestly I just picked the computer up at the store and I told it to connect to my home network and of it did everything for me. I had no say in what went where.

Well i got another friend on my hamchi... same thing he can't connect either.... i also tried pinging him as well.... same result "host is unreachable" or "Request timed out"

Which one and from who's perspective? This is important cause the one with "destination host unreachable" is probably the one with the issue. (This would imply that you have no route to the target address.)
Timing out means the rout is fine but the target IP isn't responding or is non existent.

    Googled "hamachi ping host unreachable"

    Things to try:
    uncheck ipv6
make sure hamachi is under home network

If you're the one with "destination host unreachable" attempt to ping your default gateway and see if that works.

I would also like the output of "ipconfig /all". (Ideally from you and from your friend.) It would help me a lot. (I ask for your friends cause I want to compare the two Hamach entries.)
