Starbound - Hamachi... I need help...

So today picked up my new PC all shiny and all...
One problem... Hamachi doesn't seem to be working with the server

I have tried almost every single fix on Hamachi... None of them worked
Me and my friend are in the same network.... Same everything but he can't connect or anyone else

I would of put this under the support but it doesn't have anything to do with the actual game itself.
If anyone here is an expert with Hamachi please help me... I tried everything
It worked on my old windows XP computer but it now doesn't work with my new Windows 8 computer

All I did before was making sure Hamachi was open. Check. Load the server using the launcher. Check.
Me and my friends join and then have fun... But now that method doesn't seem to work.

(I know this isn't it but I have a feeling that the problem is my friends using windows XP 32-bit and I'm using windows 8 64-bit... that can't be it)

    Did you disable port forwarding?

That was the problem when I tried to connect to my friend's server.

    yea tried that
it was in the config file

Also i won't EVER port forward if anyone here says to do that... that my friend is how someone gets viruses

Ever tinkered with the metric parameters for Hamachi? Aswell as priority?

Hamachi isn't really needed though. Whomever is hosting the server just needs to make sure their ports are forwarded correctly and then everyone else can connect to your server via the hosts external IP.

I'd rather not lol never had to before I don't think it's an issue but thanks for suggesting it... you never know that might be the error

Just said in a post above I will never port forward because of how unsecure it is

Out of curiosity, can you connect to your own server? Can your friend connect to his own?

    Yea we can

The only thing odd I noticed was that I can't ping him it just says "Request timed out" same for him to me

Basicly, it's just a variable that you change in Hamachi's connection under Network and Sharing Center, Properties, IPV4 and Advanced. Putting 10 in there instead of 9000 got it to fix most of my problems with it.

I know this might not be the solution you're looking for, but has anyone tried port forwarding and hosting the server without the aid of a VPN? Hamachi seems to behave oddly at times. If you don't have access to your router, I suppose it's the only real choice you have.

    Ah. That.

Try restarting your computer. That worked for me when I had that problem.

    Already restarted it 3 times lol a 4th won't make a difference
    thanks anyway :)
    I'll have to try that

How about your friend? Did he try restarting as well?

Just in case what MrForz suggested didn't work.

    Yea he did

Sometimes this error fixes itself if I take a break for a week but my times running out :p I can't wait a week for it to fix itself

and sadly MrForz fix didn't work

Well, I got nothing. That's everything I did when I was having that problem. Sorry I couldn't help.

Odd thing to ask but have you tried connecting to your local IP (or them connecting to their local IP)?

  17. NightFire

    NightFire Parsec Taste Tester

    Yea lol
I tried connecting to all my possible IP's

His IP, My IP, My external IP, My internal IP... All the IP's

But I feel like for some reason it's not using Hamachi... Even though it is...

EX: I power on Hamachi. The server is up. I join the server. But wait... What's this!!? I can turn off Hamachi and remain on the server.... Kinda weird if you ask me BUT in the config file it's set to my Hamachi IP

    thanks anyway :)

The only insecure part, (the part that can be exploited) is the actual service listening on those ports. If the starbound server is offline then security will be the same irregardless of port forwarding.
The only security issue would be how vulnerable the starbound server is to exploit and while I don't know the extent of that I'm pretty sure it's not a primary attack vector. (it's not like you're running the server as an administrator right?)

Anyways, make sure your [and your friends] machine do not have firewalls blocking said ports or IGMP packets. (for the ping command)

I meant your IPv4 Address. :p If you're hosting it on your computer you cannot connect via the internet.

Edit: OH, that might be because the server either hasn't updated, or you're still just being served locally. All the necessary files are available offline

Yea i know and yea it's allowed through my friends firewall and through all 3 of my firewalls lol

    IK what you meant :p
i have used Hamachi multiple times before but this time i can't find a solution
