Starbound Hacks?

? I mean isn't that good?

Or rather just a lot of people playing Starbound.


There's always a guy playing Starbound on my friends list.

 

I guess "Hacks" doesn't mean what I think it means...

 

I need more friends like yours. I am jelly. No one I know plays...

 

Starbound was at one point the 3rd most played game for a week or two behind TF2 and Dota2 (Of course).

A majority of the playerbase has been in hibernation due to the incredibly slow development progress, now that there has finally been an update you will see Starbound slowly crawling back up from the abyss.

 

Is an understatement.

 

Sure is, but the community here on the forums has proven volatile in the past regarding "attacks against development". Believe me, I've been here long enough to be disappointed 4 times from the suspected release being moved back, and I haven't played starbound in over a year because of the lack in development. Now that it's finally starting to pick back up I hope (but not necessarily count on) they will keep updating regularly.

Their "Quickly updating progenitor phase" has lasted what, a year?

 

I know. I have been on the forums for about the same amount of time. And the community can be rather volatile between Fanboys and People who feel swindled.

I float the middle. I want to be a fanboy, but in a masochistic kind of way.

Frankly I am just astonished by the lag in development and the lack of PR in relation to it. (and how they made millions but couldn't hire just a few more devs instead of moving to a fancy location, I mean look at binding of iseec. Made by two dudes and super successful and gave back to the community)

It is like trying to watch a addict get clean. You really really want to help them and watch the succeed and do anything to encourage that. But you can't trust them as far as one can spit until they deliver on the end goal.

 

I try to stay in the middle as well, but it's quite hard when every time you start to enjoy the game they do something like not give any update on game progress for a 4 month time period without explanation (Referring to that period where they were moving all of their devs). Starbound feels like it's going to become one of those games that could have been something great, but the only thing stringing it together is the community. They have this massive community of dedicated players that most franchises would kill for, and then they just drop off the map without telling anyone. Which is ironic considering keeping in touch with the community was one of the highlights of the game, the daily dev blogs, etc.

Hell, now the developers don't even visit the forums. Hopefully that is a good thing and means they are busy, but when is the last time we saw Tiy address any issues regarding gameplay? Sorry if I feel like i'm rambling, someone actually sees what's wrong with development for once in the history of the forums. It's almost like the rest of the community is hypnotised.

 

Pretty much to combat any frustration I simply occupy myself with a load of other games. I love Starbound, and the end goal and what Chucklefish originally marketed. But I get super upset every time I see no progress or the constant excuses with no explanation or Transparency (something I feel Chucklefish should be doing is being more transparent, show us images of devs, show us them working on the damn game)

So I just removed myself from the situation completely as I am sure most have.

I only spun it up, (for the first time in a year) solely because they finally dropped a "stable" content update.

The playerbase would not have fallen off so drastically if they had stayed consistent.

Any who. I am done ranting now, I think we both have expressed our opinions in a polite non rude manner. Let us finish before we get attacked haha.
