The matter manipulator should be much, much more effective. So first things first, if you are cruising through space at faster than the speed of light, a pickaxe is probably not in your backpack. Your people might not even remember what pickaxes are by this stage of technology. All of these tools shouldn't be in the game. Make the matter manipulator much stronger, just scratch out the need to go level tools up. I think most of us have played enough Terraria already. A gun should be your primary weapon. Go find one army today that issues swords as their main weapon. I know I don't sleep with a copper broadsword under my mattress. Now go 2000 years in the future and try it. I'm not saying I don't like swords, and sure any weapon could be lethal and just as effective, but once again.. we're freely travelling space, why are we fighting like Romans? Even when you do finally get guns in this game, they are surprisingly ineffective and your sword ends up being the only weapon you really want to use. Starbound is far too linear. The level arrangement feels forced. Why make sectors? Space should be infinite and every planet should have the possibility of the weakest of weak animals or some random unstoppable boss living there. Let's just roll the dice. Why list threat levels of planets that all have the same danger? Just remove sectors and let people go free. Use the threat levels for advising the average level of the dangers thereon, but by no means a static formula. It seems silly that one planet should only have gentle creatures and another populated by nothing by fluffy killing machines.
First,if you played the game it says you BARELY escape the wrath of the space gazer(something like that)and you stranded out of fuel on an unknown planet. So i think you having a powerful matter manipulator would be strange especially as your not really a special person in the game.Your just a lucky person who escaped so tools would be important if you were it the story was to make sense. Second,a gun would not be with you if you were,as i said,a lucky who escaped, your just an average person. What the hell are you doing with a gun.A sword however would make sense because in the city, town or village you live in all the guards would have big powerful guns so no one would care if you had a sword. Finally,I agree with what you said about it being linear you really should just land on a planet and not knowing whether enemies are weak or strong. You should always have to wonder whether our not when you land you are going to be the murderer or be murdered.
nope, matter manipulator should stay as it is. No guns should be an optional weapon. Not sure about the third idea, but it feels liek you didnt think this through before you posted this so. /: Also how does it seem silly? That should be a possibility. Starbound with your ideas would be: Some dude fly in ship break everything shoot everything and is god. Starbound right now is: Interesting, fun, bunch of ways to play, a survival game, you are stranded, why wouldn't you make a pickaxe I like current starbound better. Goodbye
Well I'm an average person and I don't see any sword-carrying people in my town. If I needed a weapon because I were hunted,I'd take a small handgun.Like he said,we're in the future already.I'm actually more sure that if the guy sees a revolver he'll be like "oh that's so 21th century".
^ here is what it said so you can reread it. 21st* also I love that you didn't even read the sentence you tried to quote. He never said it was average to have people carrying a sword around. In fact you are less then average, you are an undesirable who is stranded in this game. you aren't average in this game, you are stranded and fighting for survival. Why wouldn't you make a pick. Picks will still be useful even in the far future (Not to mention that once you get to a certain point you CAN make a mining lazer.
>>>"A sword however would make sense because in the city, town or village you live in all the guards would have big powerful guns so no one would care if you had a sword."<<< When you read the sentence, and not only this but you also understand it,you realise that in our contemporary society,"guards" (=police) all have guns. But people still can't wave their katana around.Firguratively and not figuratively.Actually there were far,far much more private persons owning blades in medieval eras;even if they were hiding them.Badits could attack anytime, there could be war,disease,inquisition...Aaah,good times. And I really don't know what kind of rebel/survivor/missionary just escapes with just his fists roflmao.Maybe the dude's using his Matter Manipulator to mine his ennemies to death!A slow and painful death by excellence.
Well then the matter manipulator should be a weapon that would actually be a horrible way to die. But seriously. I think his ideas would ruin this game. Not to mention the game isn't balanced already. This would just be overkill. The military still uses knifes, so swords and things of that nature haven't lost their usefulness( not to mention how often knives are used to murder) they won't lose their usefulness until someone invents a lightsaber a-la starwars.
How about something less borderand-ish a 9 milimeter or a crappy lazer pistol would work better. (Still don't like his ideas)
Yeah that sounds totally terrible. I mean I understand it's a sandbox. But I wouldn't do that. Not even in a videogame. This is just morally wrong to me.Shooting people, killing things, destroying towns,ok.But slavery...I'm not ready for that.
