Starbound FREE copie...

Hey guys.

some of you may think this idea is crazy but it popped in my mind.

How about giving everyone two instead of one starbound key to convince even more friends to the game. or atleast a second beta key.
it would double the amount of players

what are your thoughts on that?

 

There's going to be a demo for the game, most likely. There's also the guest pass options.

From a business standpoint, however, you're just looking to hemmorrage NEEDED profits.

 

That's why there is a '4 copy pack' that you can order. It comes cheaper than actually buying 4 individual.

That aside, i don't think doing as you say would be beneficial for CF. They'd get (theoretically) double the players, yes, but not double the money. Pretty much what Raybrandt said.

 

that's why i added "betakey" somehow they want to play even after the beta. and thats when they think "i'll buy it". Steam has a wonderful Beta feature. just installing and after certain amount of time it is dissabled.

 

The beta is going to last a while. Many games like this stay in beta for a year or more. While I understand the reasoning behind the idea it wouldn't have a good outcome. People would get to play the game for a while for free because its still in beta. After beta is over most ppl would just stop playing because they have already gotten their fix and move on. Others would get mad that they got to play so long and then all of a sudden can't anymore (ppl are crazy). Beta keys only work when the beta is a short,set time interval of a finished game where the "beta" is really a glorified preview. This game is actually still in a beta phase and they need all the funds they can get to actually complete the game and continue to develop it. The good news with this game is that you get to be part of shaping the final product when you preorder. And its not expensive. Most preorders simply let you play the game when it comes out.

 

Probably not a good idea. Lets face reality, anyone who has the game and wants to play it with friends will just buy it for them many times.. that or their friends will buy it to play with them.

At worst they will pirate it to try with their hooked on the game buddy.. and even then there is a chance they will buy it.

Simply giving it away with every purchase reduces all those possible sales, even from piracy.

I bought the 4 pack instead of getting the $45 version so I could spread around the love.
Just waiting for the love to arrive, I know the people I gave the other keys to aren't waiting anymore and forgot about it.
Of course, the amount of noise I'm going to create when the beta releases will get their attention back. And my neighbors attention.

 

you people are to focused on the "complete-finished-game-key" i mean.. let's say they get granted the stage 1 of beta. they play it and they decide, do they want it or not. even if they pirate this, they have an unfinished game, which is maybe not worth pirating.

 

Stage one is going to be bug filled and ridden with game breaking bugs, I don't think you want to base a purchase on that.

Only one can be connected to multiplayer at a time, though. Atleast from what certain moderator (I think it was Rekalty... Or Jonesy? I dont remember) told me when i asked about that.

 

You paid for one copy and are given the choice to use it either DRM-free or in Steam.

 

I believe starbound must come with a gift card to bed, bath , and beyond.

 

False, needing a official account is indeed a option a server can take but playing on servers not using this or on self hosted servers "Cracked" copies will not be limited.

The pre-order page clearly states that you get both a DRM-Free downloaded and a steam key.
Beta however is liking looking at a steam only release.

The guest pass was a suggestion, sorry, but the demo part has been brought up before. Could also just use the 15 minute demo that was at that one con, whatever the name was.
