Starbound, feeling a little let down

I find it funny how i have NONE of those problems.
Also there is a GOOD reason its called Beta - STAGE 1/3
They already warned about it being really unstable.

As for the optimization for PCs, Tiy said they will be working on optimization for PCs in stage 2 of the beta in this post: http://playstarbound.com/how-the-beta-is-going-to-work/.

Trust me, I cannot wait until that stage either, because Starbound runs sluggish on my PC as well. It is to be expected, and I am enjoying it as much as I can even with the choppiness. I don't feel let down because it is to be expected at this stage :). As of now I run the game in a smaller window, which is kind of annoying because I cannot read the item descriptions on the lower half of my inventory screen. But it does help fix the choppiness quite a bit and hopefully I can contribute feedback as I play. As the beta progresses, I'm sure it will be fixed. And if not, I guess it is time for a new PC anyways:p

Ofcourse it's frustrating but then the statement comes into play again ... "It's a Beta" and they already expressed themselves to how there will be bugs and what not, so feeling let down because a BETA isnt working properly ... that just doesnt sound right to me.
Sure these bugs should be adressed , I totally agree.

    I agree with 4 and 5.

I've only encountered 1 bug so far though and it was a crash. I put a LOT of hours into it and had only 1 crash.

Also, bugs are par the course for a BETA.

I never heard about the game until yesterday. Yes, it does feel like a beta bug-wise and it's lack of features, but i think its awesome so far!

There's a difference between reporting bugs, and saying "This game sucks". He did the later, he didn't do much of the former.

    I am on a Lapop.
An A6-3420M and a 7670M, this is about equalivant to a Core 2 Duo with a Geforce 9800.
I can run the game on 1360x768 without ANY problems, always above 60fps, and I have NEVER experienced the bugs you explain, and I have 16 hours in the game.
Now, having a screen resolution like yours, you are bound to get problems. This resolution was abandoned years ago, in favor of 1366x768, 1920x1080 etc, basicly you're using a 4:3 aspect ratio, while near all monitors are 16:9 and a few 16:10. This can be solved by upgrading your 2001 monitor man.
The tutorial is basicly garbage I agree, but it's no real thing for me to say "OH GOD STARBOUND IS GARBAGE OMG"
It starts everytime for me, no crashes.

    tl;dr
    Time to upgrade bro!!

how far can the "this is beta" defense go, though? my friend and I had some serious issues even getting the game to launch; had to copy and paste some missing dll's and run in admin mode and change a few steam settings, etc, and although we eventually did get it working, it was very frustrating and time-consuming to figure out how to get it running. there are too many bugs and exploits to mention, which was somewhat expected, but most of which were very obviously bugged and did not require beta testing to figure out and were obscenely gamebreaking. when i think of hunting bugs, i imagine obscure or unique situations that a developer might have overlooked, and would take an experienced tester that is actively searching for bugs to discover. also, it is my opinion that selling the beta in its current state is a little unethical. pre-orders getting early access to this stage is fine, but when you market a product as beta these days, it damn well better be playable. did terraria get nearly $1.5million from supporters a year before release? oh wait, it was developed in 4 months, by two people, Andrew and Finn. hmm... this is getting dangerous.

The game is playable for myself, everyone I've spoken to and seemingly to the majority of users on these forums. There are bugs, performance issues, lots of content still to be added and other things that you'd expect from a Stage 1 beta release, if you don't like it then wait until it's more stable. These kind of posts are absolutely pointless.

Starbound is far more complex than Terraria. That aside, yeah, there are some glaring bugs that even a few hours of playing reveal.

But there's nothing to be considered 'dangerous' or worrying. They'll fix them. We're helping them fix them. This sort of open testing is a great tool for developers that will ensure a better final product.

Don't compare this to Terraria in this regard. Terraria had much less content and was far less complex.
And this beta is basically a late alpha, meaning it's very playable, but can still have some bigger problems. Did you not read the description of the 3 beta stages?

Yay one of these threads! *Headdesk*

Beta is beta. Giving feedback is good but holding an opinion about the game -during its most buggy and feature incomplete stage of beta- is just plain stupid. Sorry buddy but wake up and pay some attention!

There's a really good reason that the game feels like it's in beta.

    It's in beta.

I really want to slap you with my feet for judging something that isn't even finished yet. so please reserve your judgement's until the game is feature complete and you played a good 20-40 hours of it if not more.

It's like calling the Mona Lisa ugly when it's a blank canvas.

It isn't finished, a lot of the things letting you down will be solved in time (most likely before phase 2 of the beta)

You were told that this build will be unstable and buggy a long time ago. If you still want to complain about little bugs and crashes I suggest going in the naughty corner where you belong.

Right... there's a constructive way to provide feedback/get resolutions to the problems presented. For me, when I hit the "launch Starbound" button it takes 1-2 minutes for the game to load and APPEARS to be frozen briefly, but it comes around eventually. I usually go into another window and read up on something, or go get a drink, only to come back and it's singing that beautiful intro music to me.

I expect that loading will be much smoother in due time - maybe even with this upcoming patch.

That's exclusive to your machine, so you can't really say it's 100% the developer's fault.

People's systems nowadays can be so screwed (in terms of OS problems, faulty .dlls and registry entries, problematic fundamental programs like net framework) that some softwares do not work on them.

Am I saying it is the case for you? No, the non optimized coding could be causing the problems, and it's the developer's job to make sure their program is failproof to problems like that. But quite frankly, they can only do this when testing, so really their only opportunity to test on an insane variety of machines is now.

You're disappointed because the beta, which was supposed to be exactly like this, is being like this? Makes sense... And to think I came into this thread expecting some smart comments about game systems..

But it's beta, so these things are all very common. If you don't like these things, you should just wait until most of the bugs are fixed.
