Starbound, feeling a little let down

For a game I have wanted since the day 1 announcement, I feel massively unimpressed and let down at the state of the game.

I know this will anger a lot of people, so I will try and phrase my words as constructively as possible:

    1) the launcher window is to big, on a resolution of 1280x720 the launcher buttons are ALWAYS concealed below my start bar and to constantly unlock my bar move it and then put it back again is annoying (especially seeing as the game doesnt always start)

    2) game starts only 1 in 4 times, sometimes it will crash at the chucklefish logo, sometimes at character load and sometimes just randomly.

    3) game does not remember option settings (mainly fullscreen), very annoying when the game actually loads on a window that can only display 1/4 of it on my screen and I have to shuffle it around.

    4) game is extremely unoptimized, on a PC that can handle modern games with a breeze (before you go on the triple AAA argument, im talking about things like KSP and MC that use a ton of resources and barely work on anything less than a decent gaming rig). the game itself runs very choppy which in turn breaks the fluidity of the gameplay.

    5) the tutorial is EXTREMELY ambiguous, it says do X without telling you that you need to do Y and Z first, or how thats done.

    6) game is full of little bugs such as the HUD or mouse cursor randomly disappearing, or resetting resolution on an ALT-TAB.

These may seem like little gripes, but for me they are big issues that at this point in development should NOT be present and negatively effect my experience.

on the + side, these are little things that can also be fixed and when they are I can enjoy this game to the full extent I should be able

At the risk of being flagged as flaming... You're an flaming idiot.

This is beta, get over yourself. this game is extremely powerful with most of its features waiting to be implemented, its becoming more and more polished as the developers work through beta changes.

It's insulting that you don't give them credit for an amazing production.

Its still a beta, we can still get them to change all these. Imagine if it is officially released with all these? definitely not my cup of tea then

Yeah, it's in beta, you should hve expected this when starting to play in early beta.

2 4 and 6 fall into the category of "It's beta, these issues are expected."

The others are fairly good feedback, mind giving an example of what you mean in 5 though? I don't remember being too confused by the tutorials myself.

However, overall, you must keep in mind that the game is not released yet. This is beta. early beta and an actual beta rather than Battlefiend-style "betas" which are just early access to the completely finished game. The fact that you are not fully enjoying the experience is to be expected. If you want a completed, polished experience with this game, wait for it to actually be released. In the meantime, keep the good feedback coming.

Pretty sure there was a disclaimer on the beta release post saying to expect exactly your complaints. If you don't like it, wait for the actual release instead of judging based of impressions gathered from an unfinished beta product.

As already stated, it is beta( And a little bit of alpha ), if you don't like playing an unfinished and unpolished product then wait for the finished version.

Please stop allready with your "THIS IS BETA"-phrase. Damn you guys never ever learn. Let him contribute with negative feedback.

    1. So change your resolution? Maybe?

    2. I don't experience this problem: it loads every time save for a crash once in a blue moon.

    3. See: one.

    4. This is true, it is poorly optimized, but that's why open betas exist: to test other systems. For some people Starbound runs flawlessly afterall.

    5. Stop being lazy and learn to think for yourself. Harsh words but they ring true. You don't need your hand held.

    6. I haven't either of those bugs.

I'd just like to point out that 'it's a beta' means this is even more the time to point out issues. If nobody speaks up about it, after all, how are they to know it's an issue? it's not a blanket excuse to dismiss all complaints or frustrations. Far from the opposite, this IS the time for complaining and whining.

That said, most of these are 'beta issues' that, as an experienced beta tester like me will tell you, are almost universal among true beta products and tend to go away as time goes on. Getting it functional is more of a priority than making it look nice or have all its bells and whistles. The tutorial especially tends to be a low priority, which is why it's somewhat ambiguous and directs you to do things without telling you where to look (finding iron) or that are suicidally reckless at times (the distress beacon). The best thing you can do is document your crashes, screenshot those stack traces, and send them in so that they can find out what's causing the crash and fix it. Saying 'It crashes sometimes' is useless, saying 'It crashes sometimes and here's the stack trace' is helpful.

Regarding most of your points, providing your computer specifications (including the monitor resolution you use) in the technical support forums would be more helpful for the developers to identify the problem and fix it. I for example did not encounter any problems like that and the game ran smoothly for me, all in all had only one game crash so far it surely depends on your system.

Stop acting like this is the Full released game, it's a Beta, if you're really that upset, wait untill it's fuilly released.
Ofcourse you can expect certain bugs, and to be honest, all of the bugs you mentioned are bugs I haven't even heard of or even experienced.

"The game is unoptimized" and "Issues like these are unacceptable at this stage of development" Are not feedback, they are uninformed complaints.

He can give feedback alright, but already saying he feels let down whilst he is playing a Beta and bugs are to be expected ... that's kinda dumb.

Most of the things on your list are fixable problems.

If this list is the ONLYy thing that makes you feel let down, then I'd say your going to be a very happy person when its released ;)

the 'this is beta' argument is totally valid, however half of the people in here have just jumped on me for having my say.... thanks to those who were helpful i'll head over to the support forum and report said bugs

Its not dumb to say that he doesnt like it. Its just something that should not interest you. Its his opinion and that is fine. He is propably one of MANY people that have similar problems and if everybody would just keep it to himself this would not help the slightest. Its good he reported this...especially because it is beta. Most people here seem to think they have protect "their" lil starbound baby cause its the best game ever created (which it propably is <3)

Don't get me wrong, I love this game allready, but in every single topic where somebody has even a lil complaint the answer for the next 20 pages is always "This is beta", "It is called a BETA, duh!", "You realize this is beta, right".

Why shouldnt he? It is frustrating for him...of course he would feel let down. Still, even if you would not have posted "I feel let down" the "this is beta" posts would still be there...thats just what I think is rly annoying and even makes it hard for the devs for filter the important posts. Mine right now isnt informative either...sry for that devs.
